Speaking as a Darksider, I would say, yes- we are more nerdy. I wear my nerdiness as a badge of honor. There's no prouder nerd around.

I don't like to say anything about what people like to collect. I don't collect stamps, cards or darkcoins. I do collect civil war anything. US and foriegn paper currency, rocks and U.S. coins. I also metal detect, and pan gold . Some people think that make me a nerd!

The only thing that separates any coin collector from nerdiness is the profit motive. Few darksiders are thus motivated.

I never cared for the term "nerd". I've always imagined a nerd as someone who gets picked on in high school by a bully, but ten years later, the bully is serving him fries as he passes through the drive thru in his Range Rover. What goes around comes around.
As far as coin collecting, yeah, there is Dave Bowers, who looks like one of my college professors, and then there is someone like gsaguy who does not look like anything close to a nerd, so the hobby is diverse and the stereotype is old and irrelevant now a days.

Nerdy...could very well be but as others have said they seem nice, very helpful and stuffed with knowledge.

Probably the best trait is that they Enjoy their Hobby.

US collectors....better not touch this.

Aem4162, a Darksider is the CU forums' affectionate nickname for numismatists who collect something other than US coins -- ancients, world coins, currency, tokens, medals, etc. We are kind of odd in that we're mostly immune to slabophilia and micrograding.
