What the heck did I just find? Some kind of Kennedy half error? (Double Struck Broadstrike apparent

Pulled this out of a dollar coin bag, it's bigger than a regular half, smaller than an Ike...

If the pictures are insufficient, I'll take better ones later... heck I'll take better ones later anyway, this thing looks cool!

<< <i>Looks like a double struck broadstruck error. They command high premiums over regular broadstruck coins. I believe this one could sell for a couple hundred, if it is indeed double struck and in decent condition. I'm surprised you found this. Great find...... >>

<< <i>If it has reeding, then it was definitely double struck, first in the collar and then the second time without the collar. Definitely a nice find in a bank bag. >>
I agree.
It looks to have some haze on it from a PVC flip, possibly. I would get the oil off with a solvent.
I'm thinking that this coin was once in someone's collection. Did you get it in change ?

<< <i>Anybody have any insight on the auction result I found in regards to my coin? >>
Well, it's been 7 years since Heritage has sold one. Must be kind of rare. Yours looks AU58, so not quite as nice, although since every error is unique, I don't think the difference between AU58 and MS63 would amount to much. I suppose the auction result essentially establishes a ballpark for your coin, since anyone looking up prices for comparison isn't going to find anything else. Perhaps FredW will chime in.

I think you just tripled my electric bill with the size of that last image.

Frankly, I don't think the grade matters much unless it was really a stellar Gem. The value of an MS62 wouldn't be much more than an XF. It's the error that matters.
