Re: Free Coins from Beyond... Paranormal???
Well, since my mother died a few years ago, many strange things have happened in the house, especially our closet. Things will thrown off the shelf, literally ripped down, mostly military gear, gun drop bags, sniper pads, and even a whole box of of M-16 magazines that were loaded. I know this stuff isn't falling. It wakes… -
Re: "No Competent Die Cutters In This Country" - - A School for Die-Cutting
Despite the good feelings, however, there were problems that became increasingly evident, especially an inability to hire enough instructors and recruit enough students. For instance, a chronic problem with the school was the Society’s inability to locate enough qualified instructors, in particular ones trained in… -
Re: Someone more knowledgeable , please provide more insight on these EARLY PROOFS. - Pogue Related
<< <i> << <i> << <i>With most early proofs, nobody is really sure what should be called proof. FWIW, I've found that the more I learn, the fewer coins I believe to be true proofs. >> Have you made a conclusion on the 1838-O Half Dollars? Re: BIN's are taking over on FEEBAY...no more cheap vintage good PSA 8's on FEEBAY!!!
Tommy and Meteorite Guy both have a point. I sold the 68 set to Tommy because I didn't have the time to deal with listing it, grading it out, etc. It was in my best interest with that particular set to turn inventory. And to an extent I think turning inventory in this market is the way to go if you buy stuff right. My… -
Re: RIP - Chris Henry
<< <i>"...To put all the blame on her is simply ludicrous...." ///////////////////// That is a good defense in the civil case that his relatives will bring. It won't fly as well against an ambitious prosecutor, in crim court. A few hours b4 the incident, she was twittering that she had just bought wedding rings and wedding… -
Re: How large is your collection?
Okay, Get out something to wipe yopur eyes..This is my sad story. My dad and I began collecting coins in 1958. We were visiting my old home (Sioux Falls, S.D.) I was eight. This friend of mine was collecting Indian Head Pennies and I couldn't believe how neat they were. Two days later I go to the Drug store and get an… -
Re: Best Book on Mint Errors Still in Print?
I have many error coin books acquired since 1979. Each is a handy resource. Love when great imagery is included. Would be awesome if one book focused on actual sales for pricing, but in today's world I get my completed sales pricing from Heritage coin auctions. Not certain anything I own is currently in print but I'd guess… -
Re: The Decline of Coin Collecting
Same thing said by Copilot- This new world appears to have a growing demand for coins and a skyrocketing demand for moderns. The decline in the hobby ended in 1996 for demographic reasons and the acceptance of the state quarters. The new world is six months old. It will take years to form as the hum grows louder. Sure,… -
Re: Clad Proof Sets
I think there's many similarities. After all, all "hype" has the same kind of trajectory. You could add things like 1950-D nickels to the list. Perceived rarity - which is very different than actual rarity - causes a surge in both prices and hoarding. But, over time, as the hoards are dispersed and the actual commonness of… -
Notre Dame football recruit dies in accident while on spring break
CINCINNATI -- A "drunk and belligerent" 17-year-old Notre Dame football recruit was killed in a fall from a fifth-floor hotel balcony during his senior-year spring break in Florida, authorities said Saturday. Matt James died Friday around 6:30 p.m. at the Days Inn Motel in Panama City Beach. He was dead when police…
