Re: Can PCGS detect Laser cut Bell Lines on Franklins ?

It's threads like this and articles in Coin World about the grading practices of PCGS and NGC (the big boys get treated better than the little old mes and yous) that make me glad I sold my small coin collection. When what's raw is probably fiddled with, and then the graders are suspect, novices like me don't stand a… -
Re: Fraudlent Ebay listing?
It was with a heavy heart (not) that I left negative feedback for the seller for this listing here In addition to his Ebay contact phone number being bad, he assured me that the coins imaged were the exact ones he had for sale. However, the images for at least 3 of his listings were taken from coinfacs.com. He had assured… -
Re: Proof Gold Eagles from the Mint
Agreed. Look at all the people who just bought Platinum. Including me. As for Gold, if they want to do 'repricing' stuff, then they should price it $50 above bullion on any given day(or what ever amount) . What if gold goes back to $600. Will they reprice downward, I doubt it. They should have left it at $770. they are not… -

Re: Ebay Fraud Article in Newsweek
Scammers are getting better at phishing. The first time I received a threatening question from eBay member for non shipment of an item, I logged in to see what item it was. When I saw it was a laptop that I never sold, I immediately recognized the scam and changed my password. But I never was hooked in their previous… -

Heh, well you see Dragon if the "fresh meat" weren't allowed to put up adds on the BST it might ruin the entertainment value for many. Granted, there are some scammers but a few like to have their little chit-chat sessions on there and bump everybody else's threads to the bottom. Add in bumping they buddies threads all the… -
Re: So I just took a shot in the dark... *Updated /w Pics*
One time an ebay scammer had 100 lots for sale to supposedly be given out unsearched at random to all 100 buyers, with the total value of the cards posted, far exceeding the total cost of the 100 lots...so I emailed him and told the little bastige that I was interested in buying all 100 lots and that I would be videotaping… -

Re: CoinWeek Article: "Do Young Coin Collectors Grow Up To Be Successful Adults?"
Sure, I think coin collecting does teach some valuable things. It forces you to be detail oriented. In the pursuit of coins, you learn about the markets and the scammers. It teaches you to be cautious, wary, and to do your "homework." I think it also could push someone to learn about history, geography, etc, based on the… -
Re: A question I'm uncomfortable asking.....
IMHO, many owners of collectibles have staged thefts of their own property. Similarly, the most ideal buyer of stolen collectibles is the victim flush with insurance proceeds. The victim's emotional attachment to the objects is worth much more than their discounted value on the black market. I recall a few scams like this…
