Re: Milk Spot Reward
<< <i>WE'LL PAY A $50,000 REWARD TO ANYONE WHO CAN COME UP WITH A WAY TO REMOVE MILK SPOTS FROM SAEs WITHOUT HURTING THE COIN. >> The problem is that "milk spots" are a patch of etched metal. (like corrosion). The desired surface texture has been obliterated in those regions. The only way to get rid of milk spots is to… -
Brittannia's.... any milk spotting problems?

Re: Milk Spots - is there a timeframe on their development?
<< <i>I'm going to try steer this discussion back to my original intent. The milk spotting problem has been talked about plenty on this board for years, with many theories and possible solutions posted. What I'm trying to get a handle on is the time window that one could reasonably expect the spots to show up, if they're… -
What would the discovery of milk spots do to the current "optimistic" market for 20th Ann.
I another thread yesterday, I asked the question, "What would cause the market on these to soften?". Then I remembered Milk Spots! What would the discovery of milk spots, on coins either slabbed or not, do to the market on the 20th Ann. SAE's? Obviously, the discovery would hurt the affected examples, BUT would the fear of… -
Re: Anyone else having problems with milk spots on PCGS ASE's?
<< <i>I recently went through my current inventory of (170) PCGS MS69 silver eagles and found (65) spotted coins (about 38%). These coins appeared to be fine before but "turned bad" in the holders. I am absolutely certain of this fact. There seems to be some sort of undesirable chemical reaction with the coin and the… -
Re: ASE proof with milk spots?
Welcome to the world of milk spotted SAE's. PCGS just started giving deserving SAE's the MS-70 designation but did not for a long time due to milk spots. I don't know of any way to get rid of the milk spots and neither do any of our fellow/fella forumites that I have read. Send it back to PCGS for regrade and collect the… -
The SAE milk spot's issue-"chlorine spots"??
Just been leafing thru the "grading guide for modern U.S. Coins" put out by NGC. In it they refer to "chlorine spots" sounds like 'milk spots" to me. I did a search of this on this forum and found no match (MUCH to my suprise) So a question for the chemists on the board.... what is the solvent for chlorine? -
Silver Commemoratives - Are These Bullion Coins - Milk Spots
I've seen multiple threads on the "Milk Spot" problem on American and World Bullion coins. Kind of curious since American and World Commemorative coins are also made out of same material "Pure Silver" if they are also subject to the same "Milk Spot" problems? I searched through all the past threads, but can not come up… -
Will milk spots lower a grade?
I've got some silver eagles and commemoratives that are in great shape, but have milk spots. Will they prompt PCGS to assign them a lower grade than they would otherwise receive? Also, a while back PCGS said they were going to get a scientist to look into the cause of milk spots. Did anything come of this? Don't bother to…
