Re: Milk spots OK on MS69's??
I agree that there shouldn't be any milk spots on any Silver Eagles, or any coin that is graded MS69 or MS70, but I have seen more than a few MS69 graded Silver Eagles that have a few milk spots on the coin's surfaces. Does anybody know if those milk spots appear after the coin has been graded and placed in the holder, or… -
Re: Milk Spots on '51 Franklin.
It is not uncommon for proofs to develop that blue haze you see on the bell. Sometimes all it takes is to remove the coin from the original packaging or the packaging it resided in for some period of time (like a Capital holder). The "fresh air" can do strange things if the coin is not neutralized. The coin does not look… -

Re: PCGS has a $50,000 reward for anyone who can solve the ASE milk spotting problem.
<< <i><< No. Glue spots are a different animal than milk spots and, in fact, can in many cases be removed with acetone. Here is an example of milk spots on an earlier proof >> That is what I was saying....if you reread what I read in my post above. >> I posted that the same thing - milk spots - happens to earlier proofs… -
Re: Do the ASE coins still have milk spots ?

My (former) '25 Army Privy coin has a Milk Spot right next to the Privy on the obverse. Big bummer. Modern MS Silver is not immune to the Milk Spot issue that the Proofs continue to have either. Even in a 70. The MS example below was graded with the spotting mostly there, as evidenced in it's TV... . .… -
Do PCGS holders cause milk spots - WITH PICTURES

I think so. I recently submitted my personal ASE collection to PCGS for grading, a total of 11 coins. I have had all the coins stored in my basement, which has been kept dry since I bought them directly from the US Mint over the past several years. All coins were sent into PCGS with no problems at all, no milk spots, no… -
Re: Would you sell a Silver Eagle in a PR69 Holder that had Milk Spots?

<< <i>Over 40% of my 1986-2005 PCGS MS69 SAE set developed milk spots. Some small some hideously large all very noticeable. Instead of submitting them for a spot review, I decided to cracked them all out, put them in a Dansco and will enjoy watching them tone. When SAE's give you milk spots, might as well make a milk… -
Does world silver bullion develop "milk spots" like silver eagles do?
We all have read and seen the pictures of the problem of milk spots on silver eagles. PCGS is still offering $50,000 for a diagnosis and solution. Are milk spots a problem on world silver bullion, (maple leafs, kooks, britannias, pandas, libertads, etc.), as well? If you have pics of milk spots on world silver post them… -
