Re: Do coins continue to tone in slabbed holders?
"I would think not because they are not in contact with the atmosphere in any way..." Not so. Coins can and do change in holders, albeit usually much slower than raw. Be it tone or the development of the dreaded milk spots or whatever plaques ASE's, it does happen and part of it is because they are not sealed. It is also… -
Re: If you had $10K to buy coins right now, what would you be buying?
Wow! I really want to thank everyone for the excellent, well thought out replies and opinions. There is certainly a good range of ideas here to consider. Paying off debt is always a good thing, though fortunately most of my current debt is limited to the big stuff, house, car payments, utilites, etc. I was fortunate to be… -
Re: Accented Hair Kennedy Question
<< <i>A nice well thought out argument ... and, an interesting take on the issue that has merit. However, with regard to your argument "C", I believe that many of the coins he doctors are in fact already graded, are cracked out of their PCGS and NGC holders, are "conserved" in pursuit of a higher grade, and in fact receive… -

Re: I don't understand how someone makes money when gold is dropping, can anyone break this down for me?

<< <i> << <i>A "short" is a selling something you don't have, with the agreement that you will "buy it" later to cover up the fact that you never had it. Real life example: I shorted Goldman Sachs back in 2010 (best financial decision of my life). In other words, I short sold stocks I did not have. I think I shorted around… -
Re: 1st. acetone bath!! before & after pics/grade guess!
Uhhh, a deadly poison it is. The pics are nice, looks pretty good in the after. I suspect that is not a PVC spot though. It looks to be oxidation but that having been said occ. the acetone solution will loosen mild oxidative or verdigris changes. Please do avoid xylene or xylitol or ANY benzene products (or oven cleaner… -
Re: PM Report from Albany GA Coin Show
Saw pretty much the same thing at a show in Spokane except there was a real shortage of bullion whether it be Gold Or Silver, and FORGET about Platinum, as is the case at the big dealers. ASE rolls were $380, silver bars were $1.50 to $2.00 above spot with light traffic on the first day. No UHR's to be found and some… -
Re: Let’s see your pics of Jefferson Nickels!

One of my favorite coins period. Die cracks, die chips and a die crack through the steps. But those steps! 1st image is seller's pic, which I kept. The spots are there, but more milky-gray than dark as can be seen from 2nd image which I took. How in the world does a reverse die that is about ready to explode get steps like… -
Fake Memorabilia you've been burned on and what to do with them.
I bought a Bulls floor piece with fake COA in 2010 after the arena tear down. Should have spotted this a mile away but I already had seats and a floor piece from the 80s remodel and let my guard down. I am not the type to dump this back on the market so I'm thinking I should hang it as a conversation piece or burn and…
