Re: Coin dealer on ebay states he believes this is toning and not PVC
@Kirk222, the problem, as you read, was old flips. The kind that are very flexible, don't crackle when you bend them, and sorta smell like a shower curtain. Coins that were stored in them -- common decades ago and even seen occasionally today, were likely to acquire PVC contamination. It often takes a long time to develop… -
Re: Dan Carr haters not allowed

<< <i> << <i> << <i>I have most issues and I've kept them in the plastic as issued. A few are starting to tone in a not so flattering manner which begs the question. How do you store yours? Pics are welcomed! I was thinking about placing them in albums.... tia mark >> In the smelter... I'm only kidding. On a more serious… -
Re: POLL: Of those who ordered 10th anniversary platinum APE sets
My thoughts on collecting platinum coins and the 10th anniversary proof set: I started on a limited basis to collect platinum coins about one year ago when I read about the limited mintages for the 2006-W platinum coins on this forum. I started selling all of my Silver Eagle proofs as well as other yearly coin sets to use… -
Re: Bailout! I dislike that word. But do you know who's grading your coins at PCGS these days?
According to PCGS and NGC, the only thing that is booming submission wise with them right now is world coinage, so at least there is a silver lining. NGC has laid off workers, but to a greater extent, so has PCGS. Both will probably have to adjust their business model somewhat, and i'm sure that the execs are working on… -
Re: Gold Coin Hoard
The money could have come from a lot of different places. Consider this: In 1894, $50,000 was stolen in a robbery of a Southern Pacific Overland Express robbery out of Sacramento. One half of this hoard was buried near Sheep Camp, a hobo jungle that was close to the city at the time of the robbery. It was yet to be… -
Re: So how was the Philly show?
<< <i>A lot has been said that Phil was a "BAD" show.... my take yup and here is why... Its a rant.... but I had a few minutes...so here I go...and if you dont like what I have to say....too bad A good Coin show must allow attendees an experience that is hassle-free, offers some level of entertainment, and is affordable… -
Re: Let's talk Slabbed Grades! -- and a problem that I see with it.
As far as bell curves go it really does not mean that much for me, yes it is nice to get a higher grade for a coin submitted than I expected, and disappointed in receiving a lower grade than expected, I believe we all feel that way. As for the reason for getting a grade in the first place is that others would buy sight… -
