Re: ***FEBRUARY 2010 Gold and Silver Stocks/Options/Futures trading thread***
<< <i>With most shorts finally burned out, gold is finally collapsing. I expect a bounce tonight at 1097 or so; then gold will plummet once more. With the prospect of IMF sales coming, Chinese buying drying up, the Indian CB having completed its purchasing, no further drops in interest rates, a plummeting euro, and zero… -
Re: The fallacy of fielding measurements. The 'common man' is correct, Jeter is better than the stats!
The whole you have to touch it thing has always been dumb. If an outfielder falls down or turns the wrong way and misses it that should be an error. Just like if 2 or 3 guys are just staring at each other and the ball falls at their feet at the very least that should be a team error. Some former scorers and insiders have… -
Re: Guess You Compulsive/Obsessive Types are Taking Weekend Off !!

<< <i> << <i>Good thing I've never subbed and only piggy backed once. I don't know what that addiction is like. Sean >> Its horrible. Its completely irrational. You feel compelled to check even though you just checked only 5 minutes ago. This feeling goes on for days, then weeks, sometimes for months. When it does finally… -
Re: True View photos not acceptable for PCGS Registry Album

The key is how light falls on the coin and is reflected to the viewer. In hand, through the plastic and with flat lighting, the reflectivity of the plastic gets in the way. That's why I like good TV photos for auctions. Today, with relatively few people looking at the coin in hand and with plastic in the way, a good… -
Re: 1st Annual Muggymania Super Bowl Exam: GO HERE!
Thanks Mike! Here is the first twist... There will be 2 different pools to participate in. One will consist of approximately 40-50 questions ranging from fill in the blanks, multiple choice, over/unders, True/false, etc.) that will likely not be decided until the last play of the game. This pool will keep everyone involved… -
Re: negative interest rates and precious metals
When rates are falling, the expectation is that rates will continue to fall. Falling rates are an inducement to borrow. When the game changes and rates start to rise, all of that debt looks good but if rates continue down, the higher interest debt becomes a burden. When rates go negative, all of the above gets turned on… -
Re: POLL: If the value of your collection and the rest of the rare coin market dropped by 75% overnight.
<< <i>why on earth would it fall by that much? >> The ones that would fall the most would not be the colector coins (16D dimes etc) but the"investor" coins. MS67 Gold , top pop stuff. The ones that are cherished by the unknowing investor in a hot market and dumped fast in a falling market. Expect all generic hi grade stuff… -
Re: How will the 500 point dow drop impact the Coin market?
Market should trade down again tommorow, by mid-day might be a good entry point. XOM and MO got hammered for $3- $4 each. might be a good entry point for some longer term call options. Some bloated stocks didnt fall nearly as far as they could (Goog et.al) still some downside risk. Should be an interesting morning. CNBC… -
Re: Magician-turned-mathematician uncovers 51% bias in coin flipping (2004)
"Montgomery had developed the Falling Cat Theorem -- a theory that explains how a cat dropped from any angle always manages to land on its feet. Surely this expertise in angular momentum could also apply to falling coins, Diaconis thought." So the guy thinks that how a living, breathing animal with senses that enable it to… -
Re: My response to Analyst from the Doug Winter Originality Thread - Just to Beat the Horse Some More
Ricko <<The desire for bright, clean coins was as strong then as is the desire for [naturally toned coins] now.>> The survival of so many thousands of coins with natural toning over mostly to fully original surfaces, suggest that collectors in the 19th century had little desire for artificially brightened coins. Moreover,…
