Re: 250th Anniversary United States Army American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin
Again, you're splitting hairs. They haven't shipped yet. There are other offers. Bids will likely rise before they fall, once they are actually sold out and the buyers know beyond any doubt that they won't be getting any more directly from the Mint. Long way from 100%? So take a pass. Doesn't mean others won't work for… -
Re: Losses For Proof Red Copper Tonight At GC
I guess what I'm wondering is if all we're seeing is a fall-off in the value of the provenance. Didn't many of the Fairmont gold coins show a big drop from when they were first sold? Is this really a lesson in the price of having to have a coin from a specific collection when it first becomes available? -
Re: US Mint Website Repricing silver offerings?
Not usually, but they did actually lower the price of the Morgan and Peace Dollars in 2023. The premiums are WAAAAY higher now than they have traditionally been. As a result, they are not so quick to adjust prices either way, as we can see with this year's run up in the price of silver. Silver is up around 75% this year,… -
Re: If you knew then, what you know now about coin collecting…
Hi Seatedlib3991, That is an interesting view that collectors forgetting about common coins could make coins go the way of stamps. I can't say if that could be true or false for coins. To me coins and stamps are likely dissimilar enough for this not to happen, but I honestly don't know. I've also been collecting since the… -
Re: More silver market frenzy now or with the Hunt Brothers run up?
Somewhere around the 1980 high, the DJIA and gold spot were about equal. Gold sold for about 17 silver ounces. Today, the ratio is about 13 gold ounces and slightly over 1,000 silver ounces. During the next long-term bear market, I expect the gold/DJIA ratio to fall to below one, from a combination of higher gold prices… -
Re: Shouldn't this be the standard for adding a coin to one's collection? (selectivity)
With a box of twenty approach it’s certainly possible to have this type of emotional response when buying a lot of your coins. On the other hand if building a set there may be some coins where you get this type of response but without unlimited time or funds or few examples of key dates it’s going to be very difficult to… -

Re: silver breaking down?
So why has silver dropped 20%+ since this was announced? I don't really know, but I will think about it. Silver reacts differently than gold, in terms of the economy and that being the case - if stocks are up, it should also mean that it is anticipated that business activity will pick up as well, correct? That being the… -
Re: How about some suggestions for a constructive YN program for our coin club....
The kids at my local club like the annual bingo game and monthly raffle. So in that vein, I suggest some kind of games. I saw a coin shuffle board game, possible for younger kids. Coin oriented Jeopardy or Trivial Pursuit kind of questions might work for older kids. True false kind of questions might be okay for any age… -
Re: If you could get a custom safe, what would you want????

How about a wall safe that you can open if at gun point where you keep a handful of V nickels or something of no value. If nobody's got a gun to your head, you just reach in and up, pull a concealed handle, and the floor opens up to reveal your vault where the real valuables are. If that doesn't work, I'd settle for a…
