Re: 1980s Wax Packs and some CU fun
yeah surprised no clemens or pucketts. my 84's were a dud so i think the boggs and ripkens are coming my way for sure. i got the white sox pack, both lamarr hoyts. i thought i had pulled a strawberry but it was only brian giles. do you remember how hot the straw man was in '84? 5 run card too and the gum looked pretty good… -

Re: 1980s Wax Packs and some CU fun
<< <i>It would be about $35/man for BOTH Donruss and Fleer 81-89. >> You've GOT to be kidding! Nice price. That would obviously include the infamous box of '84 Donruss. What's the hottest '80s Fleer year? I guess that would have to be the '85 set with the Puckett rookie and...who's the other guy...Roger Clemens? The '82… -
Re: 1980s Wax Packs and some CU fun
Once we get through the first month, we should have some nice stuff comin' our way! I mean, imagine when I pull that PSA 10 condition Clemens rookie from the '85 pack! Or, when I pull that perfectly centered Mattingly '84...OH!...and the Gwynn, Sandberg & Boggs great cards in the '83....then, the Ripken rookie rip for the… -
Re: 1980s Wax Packs and some CU fun
Wow. My pack was pretty boring. 1. 1987 was the year Dave Stewart became a stud. He was under .500 coming into the season, then won 84 games in the next four seasons. He also pulled his hat down further than anyone this side of Mike Jackson. 2. Nice airbrushing, Reggie. 3. Can you imagine if millions of Americans had a… -
Re: 1980s Wax Packs and some CU fun
finally opened my pack, 1st 86 pack for me. 85 was a big year for me but i sat out 86. anyway, nothing worth scanning . i did get a rose 83/84/85 highlight card but since it was the back card it has a bad corner. most corners were fine, centering was poor , and many cards were upside down. maybe they were pulling some… -
Re: 1980s Wax Packs and some CU fun
Here are my 84s. I really like this set, but my pack wasn't too hot. All the cards were O/C to the bottom. NO big names in the hobby, but a couple of stars from the era. 1. Bruce Sutter was the man in the early 1980's...but the tight powder blue uni might not be his best look. 2. I loved Dan Quisenberry when I was a kid. I… -
Re: 1980s Wax Packs and some CU fun
Cool! A Mattingly AND a Ripken back-to-back. Can't get much better than that! The cards, in order, that I received in the '84 pack: 119 Johnny Wockenfuss (Tigers) 237 John Castino (Twins) 569 Bake McBride (Indians) 335 Don Baylor (Yankees) 373 Bill Scherrer (Reds) 660 Ray Knight (Astros) 523 Glenn Hoffman (Red Sox - with…
