   Can any one post a picture to show milk spots on silver coins? Can milk spots happen on gold coins? Thanks!

   While toning may well not effect the grading as has been noted, I suspect that some toning happens in the slab after grading, as is the case with milk spots. I just bought a 1995 W ASE Proof, praying that no milk spots appear on that one!

   Milk spotting and toning on gold are two completely different things. The toning on gold is a product of the metal mix 90% gold 10% copper it is the copper that tones. Milk spotting is a side effect of the mint practice of washing the planchants and the rinse not getting off the surface contaminates i.e. the soap off. This…
