Oh, come on. Who told you that? The 64 half dollars wholesales at 85% melt all the way up to Gem unless there's something otherwise special about it. The '76 wholesales at about a 10% premium to melt as long as it's original (not degraded in any way). These retail at strong prices right now but this is very hard to capture… -

Does the 1964 have Accented hair? If so it might be worth a little more than melt. eBay can help you find current realized prices for a lot of things. Just search their listings and add the “Sold” filter to see what actually sold. -

if the 64 is in the same shape as the above, you've got silver keep in mind the 64 is 90% and the 1976 is 40%
