Even 24k Gold Buffalos can be born with spots. It's not a milk spot. No, it's not blood either. Apparently, a fleck of copper got onto the die and contaminated the surface. This occurred during manufacture and apparently does not develop years later. -

You can remove PVC, but if the PVC has etched into the surface it will give a mottled look to the coin when viewed at an angle because the PVC has not etched the surface evenly, so you may have pristine surfaces that were not impacted (or as much) next to spots of bad residue which ate away at the original surfaces. you mean, copper-coated lincolns? no way to remove just the water spots on those. like milk spots on silver coins. once you got em thats it. sometimes it takes alot of circulation wear to remove that stuff -

No, I had ASE's spot after 3 months that were stored in a Intercept double protection box. BAJJERFAN is correct milk spots are aggravated by contamination of the coin surface. Intercept is designed to protect against corrosive atmospheric gases. -
do you think......
.........pcgs will ever dip any coins in acetone (or something better) prior to slabbing to minimize future milk spotting or carbon spotting? or will they just continue to exchange or whatever, to make it right when a complaint surfaces with these problems? -

I know this is an OLD OLD OLD thread, but firstly it's spots and secondly with a halogen light one can supposedly see the incipient milk spots and likely be able to remove them before they become visible at which point they're likely permanent. -

Good point. Non-circulated Proof coins with milk spots or carbon spots come to mind. I'm sure some people consider proofs with heavy tarnish to be impaired. Whether a coin is impaired or not is frequently in the eyes of the beholder.
