How can you tell the difference between die rust and regular marks/chatter on early copper?
I was taking a look at the EAC sale catalog, and a few coins were described as having die rust. I thought that die rust appears as raised lumps on the coin. The coins in question were relatively low grade, and thus had a lot of marks and other chatter on both sides. Does anyone know if there is an easy way to tell the… -

Much of the difference here is mere semantics. Certainly when speaking of iron or zinc rusting it is in reference to a specific chemical reaction caused by oxidation and this would not normally occur with a silver coin. But still the term rust can be applied to deeply tarnished silver since the process is within the… -

Lots of dealers call the premium they charge a. "Toning Tax". just another way dealers can increase their margin They won't pay that. Must find a COLLECTOR who has the TONING LUST. and willing to pay the Tax. I prefer an original FML gem white coin. Toning is Rust as someone said above. PLUS alot of AT out there to confuse… -
