Re: Does eBay do anything with spoof e-mails?
What can they do? Most of these phishing scams originate from organized crime in Russia, China, Nigeria and rural areas in the Philippines...not exactly condusive to cooperating with United States law enforcement. It's quite simple really - NEVER open up an e-mail link and you won't have to worry about it. If the e-mail… -
Re: The Coin Posse POLL...
I know who the big coin doctors are. Does the posse know who they are? I am sure that they do. It's like I said before, this is a venture that just will not work, for too many reasons to elaborate on in this post. But, to respond to this poll, I think that you should add a choice to your poll: The eBay Scammers. They are… -

<< <i>His feedback is over 14,000. It seems as though he does it for his records.Probably sells a # of lots,so he needs a code for them. He describes this in his auction.Doesn't seem bad to me. >> Maybe he sells a number of lots. The problem is...this isn't one of them. It's deceptive to put the word "lot" in the title,… -
Re: The Answer is to Modify the Price Guides, Not to Change the Grading Scale or Standards
When a dealer owns the coin it will be PQ. When the collector owns the coin it will be considered overgraded. Try selling a PQ coin in a 64 holder for $1,000 when the PCGS price guide says $400. The only dealer who'll pay that much is the one who thinks he can get an upgrade to 65 and sell at $2,600 -- the result that… -
Re: An eBay auction Q&A that shows how much fraud goes on.
This "United Kingdom" stuff is happening EVERYWHERE: Just worked with bank in Chicago, police, FBI on same issue with World Series Tickets. Wanted to send me the tickets, but FIRST SENT ME a check for $4000 for me to deposit, and then to wire money back Western Union to someone "they owed money to in my area". I knew it… -
Re: The NTC Experiment---or---is NTC as bad as we give them credit for?
I think it's fine and good to remind the educated collector that yes, there ARE some diamonds in the rough and that they, who have the experience to weed out the scammers and grade coins on their own, can find great bargains in that plastic on occasion. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. However, it's also VERY… -
Re: I got ripped off!!!
I'd never suggest fibbing, but let me just point out that if he did not use SIGNATURE confirmation (because it's over $250), he cannot prove to PayPal's satisfaction that you received the card. Unless he's disappeared from PayPal, too, they might be able to reverse the charge. Let me also point out that PayPal would not… -
Re: Could we, as collectors, have softened the blow of RYK’s Folly™, and is it time for a numismatic cou
I read your post Graphix and you raise a good point. What's unspoken here is that almost all of us hope to sell our coins and realize a little profit. You (and others) are free of this burden and are enjoying coins for their history, etc. which is what it's really all about. I remember fondling my coins, letting my… -
Re: Winners announced for: Offering a prize/coin for the best/most helpful idea and/or thread.....
In all seriousness. I think there is one area of great need. I am not certain if these exist but I see a great need for seminars on "how to avoid ripoffs and scams on E-bay". I see plenty of advertisements on how to make money on EBay but never seen one on how not to lose money. Would be a great seminar at YN meetings.… -
Re: Rec'd a trimmed card from Ebay today....gee
While I don't encourage EEK or anyone to fib, I will say that once you acknowledge in your complaint to PayPal that you received anything at all from the seller, your cause is dead. In a scam earlier this year I received a handfull of worthless 2003 commons instead of the 1965 Mantle PSA 8 that I paid for. The scammer used…
