Re: North/South/Central American Coins Thursday, let's see them!
<< <i>Not a problem. According to Andy, it was by far, the best of the four so it was worth it. At least you didn't make me bleed for it! >> Yes, I thought so too, and all I had to look at were the online images. Interesting that there were 4 in one auction.... I think you got yours at a very reasonable price. I spoke with… -

Costa Rica type I (Carillo) C/M on FVII Nueva Guatemala 4 Reales. Rare. Murillo knew of only 6 examples for all under types. Stack's sold one, new to Murillo, on a Potosi 1820 2015. NGC Census lists two " Bolivia", one each F and VF. I suspect at least one and maybe both are duplicated within their own census and/or… -

Wholesome, cute, very rare 1771 NR VJ Santa Fe de Bogota one escudo Carlos III "rat nose". Of the three dates known to exist for type (1763,1767, & 1771) only the 1767 turns up at auction with any regularity (one every 4-6 years). I found no examples of the 1763, and the sole 1771 was countermarked. N.B. Popayan escudo(s)… -

Santiago del Nuevo Extremo, Capitania General de Chile, 1/2 Real 1760. The Santiago mint issued 8 Real Columnarios from 1751 to 1770 (with interruptions in several years), as well 4 Reales and 1/2 Real only in 1760. Some authors mention both 1 and 2 Real issues in 1758 and 1760, as well as a 1/2 real dated 1756. However,… -

Looking for help on this one, please, specifically if you know of any auction appearances at any time in bronze. Mexican market being what it is, would like to know just how rare this is. 1789 Mexico AE proc by G Gil, Bust Carlos IV/denominated reverse ("8R"), Grove c-6a. Seems as if extremely few were issued in any metal… -

I still have a container (plastic bottle 4"x4"x6") filled with a lot of these coins, that I got as change, back on the years they started to circulate, many of the uncirculated ones, have given away for free, many people end up using these coins to fill albums. i.e: 20 Pesos with Guadalupe Victoria - Bronze 100 Pesos with… -

I realize it's Monday, so please excuse this faux pas, but I wanted to share. I was able to pick up a copy of The March 1997 Spink America sale of The Norweb Collection of Brazilian, Bolivian, Colombian and Chilean coins. The catalog had a realized price list (via a faxed copy) tucked in the back. I was happy to pick this… -

It is estimated that up to 1/3 of the gold and silver which the Spanish plundered from the New World never made it to Spain. Pirates, and the hardships of the long and perilous journey back to Europe took its toll of the rest. The Spanish ship Nuestra Senora de la Luz was one such loss. The Luz went down in a storm while…
