Re: MN Department of Commerce Visits Coin Show Today (7/27/14) 8/1/14 Update Added
I read this bill some time back and it was clearly targeting a distinct type of scammer. If you read it you can tell who they were thinking about when they wrote it, and your friendly neighborhood B&M dealer was clearly not the real target. I was sure someone in the legislature would have enough sense to reduce the scope… -
Re: Do You Think Sellers Are Just Greedy, Ignorant Of "Fair Market Value", Or ... ?
Well, Im not a millionaire so I'll try for the maximum profit and why not? Does that make me greedy or a smart "business man"? No, Im not a dealer but why should I leave any money on the table? If someone pays for it then apparently they are satisfied with the price. Both parties happy...whats wrong with that? So if you… -
Re: Before I send payment, please advise me if I'm being paranoid...
My thoughts: 1. Politely ask him where he got the items and tell him payment will go out shortly. 2. PayPal is a scammers tool. The buyer protection can be defeated in several ways. 3. His feedback is very good. Many of his previous sales are to sports related items. Old baseball gloves tend to be spendy. 4. He probably… -
Re: Would this be a solution to the eBay feedback problem?
<< <i>I think if Ebay would spend a little money and hire some moderators for transaction disputes this would help to solve the feedback problem . >> I don't eBay gives a damn as long as the cash cow keeps flowing. They let scammers and thieves run rampant, so I really doubt they would invest in anything that helps the… -
Re: E-bay sellers. Any of you people sell outside of the USA?
<< <i>I've been selling for awhile. Wondering if I'm missing out by not selling outside of the USA. Is there a market for US coins in other countries? Can you insure? what about DC? Any advise, pro's, con's. lmk Thanks, Jim >> I sell to international buyers--never had a problem (except with one Aussie who was a former… -
Re: What a buy on 1984-85 topps hockey unopened!
So what is the actual value of this box? If its a high dollar item, at least he isn't having to pay ebay the extra $3 or $4 to list the item at a BIN of $200, and instead pays $0.50 to list it at $10. He does clearly state the shipping, and even makes reference to it in his description, I don't really see a problem with… -
Re: Ebay payment advise
PoppaJ seems to know what he's talking about and I'm not disputing that...however, I would not do it. Yes, giving out the info to a legit source is no problem, but who's to say this guy in "Switzerland" is a legit source? In the hands of a scammer, info such as that could without a doubt cause a problem, in my opinion.… -
Re: Alternatives to PayPal?
You would have to talk to your bank, but it would seem to be that it shouldn't be too difficult to set up an account that would be able to accept electronic funds transfers from any source, but which would only be able to transfer funds OUT to just one specified account. That account would be another one that you have so… -
Re: when a ebayer says "I don't know much about coins"....why is it a "red flag"?
if you check most of the "ignorant" listings they seem to closely pattern each other, a fact which is relevant in terms of what it tells us about human nature. it's human nature to play stupid when we know better and these scammers almost always tip their hand in the manner mentioned by SeaEagleCoins. the Half-Dollar… -
Re: eBay Genius Believes I'm Committing Fraud. You Be The Judge.
<< <i>A misunderstanding perhaps... >> I agree. In the past, I have been befuddled seeing the same coin offered at multiple different online venues. And besides, one of the scammers elementary techniques is to rip a photo from Heritage and post as a coin for sale on ebay. And wasn't there an eBay rule that one is not…
