Re: 1984 Donruss Baseball - the unofficial but legal thread
Okay, the 84 Donruss Box Bust is FULL: 1. Blindflyer 2. Spahnfan 3. ArnyVee 4. Al Navman I'm not positive on exact cost, but when Arny put it together last time it was $50 per person. If you want to pay via paypal and not use a credit card, I have a personal paypal account that won't charge fees. I'm going to order the box… -
Re: 1984 Donruss Baseball - the unofficial but legal thread
I just opened 3 boxes of 84 donruss and i was only intrested in the Mattinglys (got one real nice) I have only sent in good cards to get graded, never really thought about sending in ok cards that might grade high. I have a bunch of common not so common players that may grade high. I am not really sure if they would grade… -
Re: 1984 Donruss Baseball - the unofficial but legal thread
I have to agree with you on the Youngblood. I sent in probably 4 in this latest submission to MAYBE get a 9. Sheesh. For me personally, I can't get a Youngblood or a Bob Horner #535 card. Those two are the toughest for me. I love the fact that I won the Tippy Martinez & Bobby Ramos 9s from Al because those are two toughies… -
Re: 1984 Donruss Baseball - the unofficial but legal thread
I've subbed four Mattingly 10's over the years, and sold 3 of them for $600, $800, and $1250. I think the Mattingly craze is based on these things: 1) it's 84 Donruss, arguably most popular 1980's set, 2) He's a Yankee, 3) kinda had a Mantle-type following in NY, 4) minimal amount of 10's compared to 9's. About #4: I put… -
Re: 1984 Donruss Baseball - the unofficial but legal thread
Great work on all the cards Bill, I know the Carter will probably find it's way to your great set but in case you do try and sell it here's an ebay number to look up: 8827258947. It's a PSA 10 Carter that sold last night....and I think the one you have puts it to shame.....again great work and another excellent… -
Re: 1984 Donruss Baseball - the unofficial but legal thread
<< <i> << <i>Why is there such a big premium on '84 Donruss cards as opposed to years like '83 and '85 that had such great pulls available (HOF RCs, etc)? >> Spend enough time with 84D's and you'll soon understand why they are so popular. IMO, there's not a dud in the entire set. To get an idea, look at each card from a… -
Re: 1984 Donruss Baseball - the unofficial but legal thread
I hope to have some successes with the cards I submit and will be sure to show scans. It seems this is part of the fun with this thread. I also have an inquiry out on three sets from a friend of mine. He's going back and forth on whether he wants to sell or not. These were factory sets he busted and put the stars all… -
Re: 1984 Donruss Baseball - the unofficial but legal thread
Jeff, welcome to the '84 Donruss world! Well, not officially yet, but you'll get there. There are many cards that are difficult to find centered nicely and have very low pop numbers. The best indicator would be to look at the PSA Population reports and see which cards have low pop numbers for 9s and 10s. Right off the top… -
Re: 1984 Donruss Baseball - the unofficial but legal thread
The guys who have been gobbling up the 84 D's on ebay for the past few months aren't on this thread or even registered with PSA yet that we know of. Upsalaallamerican has been paying whatever it takes to get the cards he needs. Upwards of $400 for PSA 10 commons with low pops. Pjpmint has been buying everything else. And… -
Re: 1984 Donruss Baseball - the unofficial but legal thread
Al, On the loupe question; never use one. I always eyeball the centering; I have a real good feel with experience looking for 55/45 or better especially on these 84' Donruss. As far as the corners and looking for other flaws; after I put aside all the "centered" cards I go through a secondary process of checking each card…
