Re: Recent advice from an advanced collector: “Don’t ever be an underbidder.” Ouch!
I've got a good number of coins in my primary non-US collecting interesting that presumably fall into the category covered by the theme of this thread. I've bought a disproportionate percentage of the better coins I'm aware of for 15 years. Yes, there is less competition, but only a tiny fraction of US coinage is harder to… -
Re: "The losses were more on the buy side than the sale side"--what does this mean?
Buy side or sale side is a hard thing to quantify. One could have bought many decent coins in the 1995-2007 period that would have been considered "good" buys at the time and been within 0-10% of current wholesale levels. In 2009, many of those "good" buys have suffered hits to reverse gradeflation, changing tastes, or… -
Re: It's time to move on
Well, the Mighty Red Sox didn't let the Rangers win another one. It was like the minor leagues vx. the major leagues, the JV vs. the Varsity, Silver vs. Gold, a seal vs. A Great White Shark, etc, etc, etc. Next up is a weekend series against the Angels. The Angels could be in sole possession of first after Sunday. The sky… -

1939 Play Ball Ted Williams: A very nicely centered PSA 6.5 sold for $14,500 in Spring of 2021 at REA. Williams RC was said to be on a downward trajectory around this time last year and a gorgeous perfectly centered PSA 5 Williams sold for $7,500 in the 2022 Fall REA auction. So I'm in on a perfectly centered PSA 5 at… -
Re: These dollar coins are going to fail....again!
<< <i>I opened a roll, no errors ofcourse, I figure I need to spend them. I'm going to the post office, I take 5 coins. They are in my pocket and while in the car they almost fall out. At the post office the cost was $3.77. I give them 4 coins and get back 2 dimes and 3 pennies (5 coins), which almost fall out of my pocket… -
Re: True View photos not acceptable for PCGS Registry Album

The key is how light falls on the coin and is reflected to the viewer. In hand, through the plastic and with flat lighting, the reflectivity of the plastic gets in the way. That's why I like good TV photos for auctions. Today, with relatively few people looking at the coin in hand and with plastic in the way, a good… -
Re: See how the really big boys manipulate the Metals market
<< <i>... Anyone care to speculate why a guy who chased money all his life left a job paying hundreds of millions to work for the US at 100K a year?? Please don't say he thought he had enough money already, those guys NEVER have enough. >> Power. It is the same reason Rockefellers went into politics, Kennedys too. Money… -
Re: Current market conditions- How are things looking from where you are seated?

Sustained bull markets often draw in a lot of “new,” inexperienced people that wants to participate in making “quick cash,” and will often over leverage…
