Re: Does a Rattler Holder justify these Kind of Bids?
I buy rattler's and old holders knowing that they should be nice or decent for the grade...the upgrade is a bennie if it comes about. But when you pay a near double premium because the words state something is high end, PQ+, blazing flashy luster, 95% red, etc. And you get a turd that is almost brown (20% red), dull… -
Re: Any coin shops near I-75 Atlanta to Gainesville,FLA???
There are two physical coin shops in Gainesville. One is on University Avenue near 34th Street. (Coming from the North, you'd take the second Gainesville exit and head East. The store is a couple of miles on the left from the exit. After you pass the movie theater on the left, the store is in the next strip mall on the… -
Re: Are these two the same coin?? -- Better Pics
I guess what has been throwing me on the new pics of the reverse is the difference in the details of the strike in the shield. It could be the lighting throwing it off but there are serious differences in the stripes by the lower berries where one has an indent and the other does not, the outline of the shield is also… -
Re: Early Lincoln “Memorial Reverse” price history?
MS66 coins are in no way "typical" for Lincolns of this era. The pricing is "what it is", and involves many factors. The fair market price for even a MS65 would not be close to 3c. Maybe a run-of-the-mill, spotted, dull, lifeless unc. would be 3c, but certainly not a gem. I know, I sell these, I slab these, have for years.… -
Re: A little OT, But so be it----------In general where are you ?
As a midwesterner, our geology and the effects of the glaciers don't offer much in the way of placer gold. I would have to drive a couple of hundred miles to get to the first places that offer even tiny amounts. But in CA, don't you mostly gave to "pay to pan"? Or belong to the GPAA or some club? It's difficult to believe… -
Re: Hotel rooms at FUN show
<< <i>My room is in the Rosen Pointe Orlando. Is that too far to walk? >> W/o consulting a map or knowing your physical condition, I would state even if you have a car and choose to drive from your hotel to the show, keep in mind you will likely have > a quarter mile walk from your parking spot to the actual show… -
Re: Help a newbie out with frauds/fakes

<< <i>So the scammers on ebay photoshop a fake card and send you nothing? Or do theysend you a fake card? >> The one piece of advice I can give you is hang around these boards long enough and you will be able to spot most Suspicious auctions from a mile a way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the people on here are the best at pointing out… -
A couple of medal additions--more Obstetricians (edited and now added more photos)

There aren't THAT many OB/Gyn medals out there, but these two arrived in the mail today. It was a good day. First is a medal by Devreese. Dr. Edouard Kufferath was a Belgian OB, renown as an excellent teacher, and who pioneered using aseptic rules which led to a significant decrease in mother/baby mortality. He also… -
Re: My experience with CMQ
Not to jump in, but once you have spent enough time collecting old gold, you can spot "processed" coins from a mile away. "processed" can be described as the surfaces being dipped/altered to enhance and brighten a coin. Untouched gold typical has "skin" or crust from being around almost 200 years (especially early gold).… -
Re: 2 gold bars and some silver coins found off Key West
Something tells me... they don't sell this stuff by the ounce @ NY spot, so it's a moot point. Also think it's strange... 20 years later they finally found some more? You'd think by now, there would be a 1 mile wide hole iin the ocean where they found that ship... or was it the fact that they were sued by the state and…
