Re: Is there anything about our hobby or business that you truly don't understand?
There are many things I don't understand...here are a couple of them: 1) As already discussed, pricing. As a collector I feel I just don't have enough up to date info to make a informed decision or pricing offer when presented with a coin I am interested in. Sort of at the mercy of the dealer to an extent. FYI this is not… -
FSH - Bargain bin list
I'm trying to clear out some of the cheapos from my sales list. This is essentially the same thing with prices reduced 25-50% on the cheapos. Prices dropped further on the other stuff too, see link in sigline for more. PM me if interested in anything. US shipping: $2 for up to 20 coins, please add $1 for every 20 coins… -
Re: What's something you haven't done in numismatics or in your coin collection, or are you guilty of it
Never completed a set....though I bet I have come the closest anyone has so far in one particular set. Never did publish a numismatic article or book....yet. Never dipped a coin in anything other than acetone. (Acid dating buffalo nickels as a kid isn't the same.) Never crossed a PCGS coin to a different TPG. Never even… -
Re: Ike dollar help post

Since IKE's have wide ope fields, they are notorious for bag marks, ticks and hits. Some tips I can think of for grading them... Examine the fields closely, looking for hits, dings.... Your sure to find some but if they are small and non-distracting you can still obtain a GEM grade. Next problem area would be IKE's big… -
Re: PCGS Multiholders
It's a different way for PCGS to say NO to you without coming out and saying it direct. PCGS is saying NO to you by it's pricing and the way they place conditions on this purchase for the multi-holder service. This way they can say yes we have it, but you will pay thru the nose. It is OK for customers you never see again.… -
Re: Are Dansco albums still the favorite or are people moving towards the intercept albums?
I have never used the Intercept albums but have used Danscos. Back around 1991 I started a few sets of current coins in Danscos. I took great care to pick a nice UNC using cotton gloves to insert in album. The cardboard dust was a real pain. It seemed to always show up on the coins. I never figured these would be worth… -
Re: Are things a little bumpy for the average dealer?

hey Don my experience tells me if you're hoping for the milk-spots to dip off, well, you're hoping for too much. they are actually a part of the coins surface and not a stain on it. they may lessen but they can't be removed. about local shops, my guy has been in the business for about 25 years and he specializes in…
