Assuming Jon's question pertained to individual specialized sets, and not full collections, Boiler78 is probably correct. I do think a gem grade average on an unweighted Registry type set can be a bit misleading, tho. Attention Type Set Collectors!!!
I previously had a type set up on the PCGS Set Registry, but decided to pull it until they have the weighting completed. I just couldn't stand to see a high grade 19th century coin outweighed by a higher grade modern proof. Also, open note to PSA. If you're going to rearrange and create a Red-Flip Style Registry sets, you MUST weight multi-player cards that have been signed by all players depicted higher. I prefer the PCGS registry format better. The NGC format requires more steps and is a little harder to use. NGC weighs coins based on indivdual grade. The PCGS weights only really count in the higher grades for most sets (i.e. if you don;t have top grades, you aren;t in the running anyways.)
