Re: Since I am on a roll, I believe every coin can be reproduced..

One way you can tell for SURE a fake PCGS slab from a real one. Submit the coins yourself. Provenance, or tracing the history of ownership of that coins back until it was slabbed is also a good way to assure yourself of authenticity. Your assumption that a small time machinist could produce a coin that would fool everyone… -
Re: Crushed Lettered Edge Capped Bust Half Dollars
1. What is the diameter of these coins? (Same as the 1836 Reeded Edge? If not, why?) No, the same planchet as the regular production issue half, but mechanical compression may have altered the diameter of the planchet used, I believe that new the collar was adjustable. As seen in the one known unlettered edge specimen.… -
Re: Let's talk about our "Jimmy the Greek specials"
In 1983, Moses Malone predicted "fo fo fo." Slang meaning four for four, which the Sixers did in the playoffs when the Sixers won the title. That team, which included Dr J, was so dam good, nobody really doubted it. I only bring it up because when great teams, and for one season that Sixers team was no doubt a great team,… -
Re: This guy kills me. Another smoking deal, or somebody smoking a deal..

from the auction description, There is quite a history and quite a pedigree that is in the initial stages of it's development concering this numismatic property. Our consignor, who wishes to remain anonymous, has passed on the following pedigree information. Years ago a vault was uncovered in a vacant house. The owner of… -
Re: Anyone else here not a big fan of slabs

As most everyone here knows, I am a strictly anti-slab collector. I have never purchased a slabbed coin and I never will. Unlike some here, I won't even buy a slabbed coin to crack out. As far as I'm concerned if a coin is in a slab it no longer exists. (Don't confuse that position with my searching for slab for my… -
Re: BU Roll Market Perking Up.
No. I'm writing on several subjects and it is translating within each and between them. While less true aboutr the coin posts Wow. That barely took four hours in the middle of the night! Maybe you don't understand the nature of an LLM. These things are parsing language and reflecting the promptor. Essentially the LLM's… -
Re: Die rotation gauge
A few years ago I published a short article on rotated die varieties in the Liberty Seated half dime series in the E-Gobrecht journal. That article included details of the Rota-Die device and of Leroy Van Allen's Rota Flip, which may prove valuable to some readers. The article appears here: ROTATED DIE EXAMPLES OF LIBERTY… -
Re: Wellington Mara, Giants Co-Owner Dead At 89
NEW YORK -- In a big turnout of football star power, family, friends and admirers gathered Friday for an emotional send-off to New York Giants owner Wellington Mara, one of the founding fathers of the NFL. An overflow crowd packed St. Patrick's Cathedral for the funeral Mass honoring Mara, who died Tuesday at 89. Mara,… -
Re: New photos now posted on 4 different 1805/4 O-103a (b) bust half dollars - Huge elevated die flake c

The photo's back a few threads are preturb's coins. The best I can do is take a pic of a Sheridan Downey MB catalog cover for the Robinson S. Brown collection. I bought this 1805/4 O.103a in 2004, will take an image when I get it from the bank. I don't believe the "B" state exists, because it may not be possible with the… -
