Re: As a buyer on eBay, do you care if the listing is "Private"??

<< <i> Before eBay scrambled the buyers id a few years back, private sales for high priced items was almost a must to avoid the identity of the buyer. Now it's mostly utilized by questionable sellers with questionable products or scammers. >> This is what I was looking for! I remembered using this function many years ago… -
Re: How much will this Jeremy Lin close for ?
<< <i>David, this is EXACTLY the climate for prospectors and scammers to come out and make a quick buck (but potentially lose as well). From shorting, to schilling, to not completing transactions, anyone in the market for a Lin card needs to be careful. >> Curious what you mean by shorting, do people try to sell a card… -
Re: MN Department of Commerce Visits Coin Show Today (7/27/14) 8/1/14 Update Added
I read this bill some time back and it was clearly targeting a distinct type of scammer. If you read it you can tell who they were thinking about when they wrote it, and your friendly neighborhood B&M dealer was clearly not the real target. I was sure someone in the legislature would have enough sense to reduce the scope… -
Re: Should eBay require sellers to specify a grade for cards?
Can't do it. There's way too much variation in how people grade. Sure you can post standards, but based on the fact that there's a thread-a-day dealing with submitters shocked at the low (or high) grades they got, about the "overgraded" PSA cards on Ebay, etc, you can see that no one has it perfect. Heck, people can't even… -
Re: Is the US mint repricing the 2010 silver proof sets? Back on sale at $56.95. Load up time?
<< <i>I see most coins are down, even the dollar direct ship program. I wonder why ?? >> I heard thru the grapevine that the US mint was going to cancel the direct ship program. Scammers were buying the direct ship coins from the mint and turning them back in to the bank at face value. They were doing this for all the free… -
Re: Look at this description of a 1952 Christmas rack pack...
<< <i>I remember them in toy stores in the late '60's/early '70's as well. I consider them a novelty and not a legitimate issue. IMO Murphy lost all credibility when he started touting these as real. >> That's right but the problem is that "scammers" have copied those and inserted 5's or maybe 6's type cards in the packs,… -
Re: So when a dealer says he won't refund me for a recolored Perry RC, what do I say?

Ron, sounds like the dealer and you have been dealing for a long time. I think he should refund your money for the Perry, I know if you were a customer of mine for 7 years spending a couple grand every time, I would be refunding your money. A wise coin/carddealer I knew once said: "Sell it to make a profit but always leave… -
Re: Seller uses Auctiva to process paypal payment
I have no way of knowing that I am at a safe site. A smart scammer could easily use this method to capture my paypal password. Ain't gonna happen. I have no problem with logging into paypal from an ebay site. My cool ebay tool bar shows me that I am at an actual ebay site. If I, as a seller, was gonna use a third part… -
Re: eBay Genius Believes I'm Committing Fraud. You Be The Judge.
<< <i>A misunderstanding perhaps... >> I agree. In the past, I have been befuddled seeing the same coin offered at multiple different online venues. And besides, one of the scammers elementary techniques is to rip a photo from Heritage and post as a coin for sale on ebay. And wasn't there an eBay rule that one is not… -
Re: Man! Ebay is Ka-poot! Awwww!
For me, Ebay has not been a profitable venue to sell coins in the last 5 years. Rarely do I place anything for sale on Ebay. With the number of scammers listing coins and the number of home made slabbing companies, a nice coin is hard to sell at a reasonable price. People do not take into consideration a coin graded MS70…
