Re: ANACS Slab by Generation Info
Well... it's a type 1 bar code (used up to 2000, see https://web.archive.org/web/20180916084043/http://www.anacs.com/contentPages/BarCode.aspx) so that doesn't help. The simplest explanation might be that ANACS had two suppliers, each of whom had slightly different molds. (In Bunnie Huang's book on manufacturing in China… -
Re: ANACS Slab by Generation Info
The ANA XXnnnn predate the Amos XXnnnn and the two in use at the time of the sale are, well, the middle. 1989 Began Grading and Slabbing SWH: CD, EX (part), JK, KP, LO, LP, MJ, NJ, RD, RE (part), TR, TS, WD, WF, WR, and XA 1990 Sold by ANA to Amos Press (Coin World) SWH: EX (part), PG, PK, RE (part), SC, SX, WE, and ZD… -
Re: ANACS Slab by Generation Info
@JeffersonFrog No the serial numbers are not sequential. My understanding is that ANACS went back at some point in Gen 4 to start at serial #1. I've seen serial numbers in the single digits but not #1. Gen 3 presumably came before or at least right at the beginning of Gen 4 and has 6 digits. I believe it wasn't until gen 6… -
Re: ANACS Slab by Generation Info
@seatedlib3991 that whole era has been scrubbed from the history. You can easily find a few articles from the ANA sale to Amos in 1990. https://www.chicagotribune.com/1990/06/24/coin-slabbing-comes-of-age-with-ana-sale/ You can find articles from the Anderson Press sale to James Taylor / Driving Force LLC in December 2007.… -
Re: ANACS Slab by Generation Info
I have this thread bookmarked, and have reread back through it a couple of times, but remain confused about the swh serial numbers. Specifically: Are the Gen4, Gen5 and Gen6 all-numeric serial numbers sequential? * Is a 960318 Gen4 holder older than a 356318 Gen4 holder? * Do the first two digits represent something else… -
Re: ANACS Slab by Generation Info
@bob48 Thank you! I'll add those gen 3's to my census. Typo fixed. What's the chance you can post photo's of those 3 Gen 3's? @1peter1223 You're welcome! As for the Type 1 cert, I will throw my two cents out but would like to know the opinions of some of the others here. My opinion is that the Type 1 should not be as rare… -
Re: ANACS Slab by Generation Info
@86Saab - I saw that also - problem is it's both beat up & an expensive coin. And a seller with a 1 rating. And somebody we know has this one E-0007-H from a few months earlier for sale, https://www.ebay.com/itm/153992212853 I don't think these were before grading, there are E-nnnn-X certs from Colorado with grades. In… -
Re: ANACS Slab by Generation Info
I just got my hands on a scarce Gen/Type 9 photo cert and found the following details that I hadn't seen mentioned anywhere. Not that I've seen any other Type 9's as none are present in @bob48, Robert Paul's history. 1. It is narrower than Type 10 5" vs 5 3/16" 2. Font and capitalization is same as Type 8 while Type 10… -

Re: ANACS Slab by Generation Info
@ErrorsOnCoins that's the type 1 bar code (see https://web.archive.org/web/20071026113655/http://www.anacs.com/contentPages/BarCode.aspx) I've gone back and checked the bar codes, and although the label is smaller, they are both 16 digits, so these are all in the 1991-2000 time frame. (2000 was when the bar code changed to…
