Thinking back to the OP, the known 1870-S $3 falls into a similar situation. The die was shipped without its mintmark whereby a mint worker hastily engraved a crude "S". Had that not occurred, the famous piece would only be considered a damaged Philadelphia example. -

I started selling about 1/4 of my gold at $2,750. I just sold 1/4 more between $2,800 and $2,900. As it is sitting around $2,950, I am waiting to sell, as the last half is more a long term hold to see what happens. Who here has a good (and of course infallible) memory? In 2008 metals exploded around St. Patricks Day, with $1000 gold and $21 silver. By Fall gold was down around $700, and silver around $9. What you are missing us that as interest rates went down the prices of those bonds went up. What investors did not get in income they got in capital gain. Advisors have been promoting dividend paying stocks also. If one only bought CDs then that's the risk they assumed by taking no risk. Which means that any maturing bonds…
