Re: Submission results, close again, but no cigar.
<< <i>If you can figureout what happened on the problem coin >> Greg, I'm sure it's hairlines, that's what it always is when I blow one this badly. With PCGS, you can have a big 'ol fat milk spot, and still squeeze out a 66, but have more than a couple hairlines and whamo! You're in a 64 holder. Russ, NCNE -

Steamship Pulaski, divers find a stash of rare gold coins at the site of 1838 shipwreck off NC

I love these shipwreck stories............especially when gold and silver coins are involved. Re: Does this 1945 Merc look likes it's in a slab to you guys?
<< <i>It might just be a possibility that the guy doesn't know what slabbing means. >> Oh, this one knows what slabbing means. He's scamming a raw Accented Hair Kennedy right now that's covered in milk spots that he's calling "little white specks or lint" while also calling the coin a deep cameo and perfect. I sent him an… -
Re: Remove $5 Indian from PCGS holder?
Why would you want to crack it out? If that is the coin's number PCGS can do it for you. The gold that's underneath the milk spot is the coin, not the haze. PCGS should be able to help you out on it. It does however bring up a topic, for me at least: If there are milkspots on gold, what caused it? The plastic? :o Hmmmm.… -
Re: What’s the Dumbest thing you ever done to a PM coin? or any coin.
You may be able to use a polish or fine grit compound to buff the milky spot left behind by the acetone… I did the same thing as you on a graded non sports card years ago… Also stupid things I’ve done to coins… When I was a kid I “cleaned” a Standing Liberty quarter by using a pencil eraser on it… it was working but not… -
Re: Coin collecting in Hawaii?
<< <i>I am guessing that coinlieutenant has a good "feel" for the interaction between weather and coins >> If you leave them out in the open ocean air, then you will probably get some interesting toners. Other than that, I haven't experienced any problems with humidity. Milk spots yeah, but I doubt humidity has anything to… -
Re: Canadian silver
Add me to the list. For bullion speculation the $5 silver Maple Leafs are sweet. I like the low mintages, no milk spot issues and how the Queens image changes as she ages. I think all the Canadian coins are under valued and will increase in demand when more American collectors turn their eyes towards our northern neighbors. -
Re: My guess for the "changes coming"
Virtual Coin Collecting... you send your coins to PCGS to be graded and you receive your "slabs" online. The original coins will be stored at PCGS and you will buy/sell/trade collect your slabs online. No more worrying about theft, counterfits, milk spots, copper turning RB or BN, etc. You new "slabs" will live forever!
