Re: Should this board be split into modern and older coins? Poll
NO! We not only can but should learn from each other. The IKE GROUP is passionate about the origins of many coin features Ikes display well because Ikes are large, hard and nickel clad. Thus Ikes are ripe for the study of MDD, die state and the many factors that create minor differences in the down-line expression of… -

<< <i>However, at striking pressures I think it would instantaneously vaporize, losing the characteristics I hypothesized. >> Got it backwards. Re: Why did all of the early mint engravers die in office?
I am not sure when the employment rules changed yet as I am still doing research but most of the early mint positions were for life. I know for sure that even Wright died in office in 1793 due to the yellow fever epidemic. Here is another tid bit of info concerning other engravers from a book I am writing on mint… -
Re: old cents found in change today!
Well, my biggest haul ever was a typical bank trip for $10 face in cent rolls to look through back in the Fall of 1995. 9 of the rolls had an account number on them and were all wrapped with the same old pinkish cent wrappers that used to be so common before the more current striped type. After going through the first of… -
Re: Off-Center Clashed Die Indian Cent - My Newest Addition to My Collection
I think the clash is too deep to be caused by hand if the dies were hardened. If done while hardened, it would have to be caused in the press. Imaging the obverse die not secure and partially falling out during a strike. The obverse die that cause this clash is not known. Now, that being said, I think he clash was done… -
Re: 2009 UHR St. Gaudens strike tomorrow Nov.24th

<< <i>Nothing special. I'd rather have an original Saint. >> Nothing special...ygtbsm! Original Saints are great but easily to be had. The UHR will be easily had too...if you have the cash. Re: 1927-D - Another Forgotten Buffalo Nickel

I agree with your assessment. The '27-D is one of the most poorly struck in the series but is not often cited for this. I've looked at over 100,000 Buffs while I was conducting my strike study and have never seen a fully struck coin of this date out of 517 coins observed. These are my comments >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>… -
