Re: MTg set weighting

Hey Guys, Weighting of sets is a common feature on the sports end of the Registry as well as PCGS (coins). It came from a desire to show that certain cards are more "important" in a set than others. As Joe pointed out, in Beta a Black Lotus is worth more than all the commons and uncommons combined!!! Weighting helps to… -
Cameoness doesn't count?
In looking at the PCGS Set Registry weightings, it appears that the presence of, and degree of, cameo appearance doesn't change the weighting. For example the Kennedy 1965 SMS price guide lists vastly different prices (and populations I suspect) for "no cam", CA and DCAM, yet the registry weighting is 1.00 irrespective.… -
Re: Grade Weight question- HOF Rookie collectors please chime in.
Perk, I update the grade weights on the HOF sets annually, so YES they will re-look and make changes if necessary. That being said, throw any and all sensible arguments you could make about POP and VCP and realized prices. lol.. I've been down that road many times already and the bottom line is SMR is the only thing PSA… -
A New Way to Compare Sets?
Recently I remarked to Keoj that I felt there should be some way to mathematically differentiate between Registry Sets that were all top pop, but in different series. After all, we intuitively know that it's much tougher to be top pop in Bust Dollars vs some recent Modern sets - but how to show it? He came up with a… -
Re: Unofficial All-Time Packers Set Thread:UPDATE!!!
<< <i>Had a few emails from Gayle and here is what transpired. There were 33 registrants at the time of voting. 19 of those 33 voted ( or 58% ) Of those 19 PSA needs just 10 votes to add the card. In other words if one third of the registrants want a card added to a set they pull their weight when many do not vote. I am… -

Re: 1986 Carnation Major League Wrestling Set....Ric Flair Fresh Scans Added
I decided to call PSA and speak to the registry department and see how set weightings are changed. It turns out that it is based on selling prices and if sufficient data is presented they will make changes. The Sergeant Slaughter card was weighted a 1 and the lowest in the set and the selling prices clearly reflect it… -
Re: 1960-D Franklin PCGS MS66 Rare (pop 1, 0 finer)
I made the same comments to PCGS as Ronyahski made when Franklins were weighted. I suugested a 1/2 point premium for FBLs. I thought they would do 1 point. What a surprise when they did 2 points and more for some dates. I disagree with all excessive bonuses for strikes. To say that the registry doesn't matter is wrong.… -
Re: The new bonus point system
Bill...thanks for the post. I got the weight thing from the highlighted portion below. Seems weight is in there somewhere...no? It is kinda confusing. Bonus Points and Deductions Some sets may have bonus points assigned to certain items within a set. Additionally, the following point deductions are taken for Qualifiers.… -
