Re: Commons
With the 61's a lot of the PSA 8's are fairly cheap so I was hoping to find 7's and do the same thing. Seems that i can't seem to find many of those much cheaper. I guess if I have a seller that I can rely on that the grades are going to be accurate, I will pay a little more. Sort of defeats the purpose to buy a card for… -
Re: **OWoooooo**..... I did it. Said I would never, but did....
I said all of the ones that I have sent in. Not all of the coins I have. I only send in the ones I feel should have no problem getting green and hope for gold. My last batch was 12 coins - 10 green, 2 gold. I have a 1923 Monroe in a PCGS slab marked as having surface work done on it. I have two dealers that told me that if… -
Re: OT: Reduce Bandwidth Addon & html usage
I disagree on two important points. /1/ DO NOT ALTER YOUR ORIGINAL IMAGE. Edit & reduce in size a copy. Save the originals - untouched - for future use. Storage is relatively cheap. I shoot raw + jpeg and it runs 30-35MB / image. The original 5208x3469 image can certainly be shrunk to 1350x899 and saved with an 95% quality… -
Re: New China Pieces
actually I get from several dealers in Hong Kong and China. I do try new sources but only if they guarantee authenticity. I've had a good run with them I've got several nice raw pieces at a fraction of the price. I live in Hong Kong and am putting a large empire and republic set together for my daughter. Usually the more… -
Re: Wow imagine if CAC did what record companies used to do
I posted this elsewhere.....but: Marking coins that "fail", or even publishing lists of coins that "fail", is a great way to DECREASE submissions. Since "no hole" or "no brand" coins can be assumed to have NOT been viewed by CAC, they would generally be viewed as better coins than the rejected and marked coins. Tier 1:… -
Re: 28 Coins Crossed Over and Results
Numis after being very active with buying, grading crossing franklins over the past nine years. I have a few rules I follow: 1) I buy without regard to holders including raw 2) I buy only colorful franklins 3) if I sell I sell I get them in pcgs holders first 4) I never cross ngc to pcgs, I always crack first 5) I never… -
Re: Can you possibly draw a parallel between 2014 Kennedy Half Gold vs the past 2018 Palladium EVENT?
I agree the 2017's stay strong. They are available raw for $1,800 and the 2018's are probably going to be similar after a few weeks. What I am referring to when I say "come down in 3-6 months" is the PCGS70's. The one presale 70 at 3,995 is probably on the high side long term, but the one being bid on may go for more… -
Re: Which causes more harm to the hobby? Auction shilling or coin doctoring?
Counterfeit coins and/or holders. As the ability to identify counterfeits diminishes, if counterfeit coins/holders regularly start showing up, confidence in the coin market could cease. Doctoring. If harshly done—tooling, smoothing, whizzing, etc—a shame that a coin is ruined, but generally easy to spot. If mildly done,… -
Re: July Card Acquisitions....vintage and modern....what cards did you get?
And some recent Yaz pickups I'm excited about. First a huge upgrade I was thrilled to add. Bought it from CU member @ugaskidawg at a fair price. The straight 8 replaces my PSA 9OC. Thrilled with this one! Next is a tough 67 team issue: Obviously the staining is a bummer, but it's still a good addition. Also I traded away… -
Re: Hypothetical: A fresh start...
Patriotic CWT and/or old generic gold (liberty 1/2 eagles routinely go for very little over spot). Patriotic CWT because there are abundant slabbed and also abu dang raw pieces, andmany are very affordable, but as you delve into it, there are some very rare pieces (one just went for almost $2k in a recent HA) auction. So…
