Peru 1752 1/2, 1, 2 & 4 reales mintages
I know what Yonaka states in his book 1/2 = not mentioned the exact number (he has seen less than 10) 1 = 424 minted (he has seen less than 10) 2 reales = 208 minted (he has seen less than 10) 4 reales = 81 minted (he has never seen any but mentions maybe 1 exists) I would like to know what you long term collectors think… -

Per John Dannreuther's fabulous two-volume set on Proof Gold: Bangs 7/12/1860 sale, Lot 110, graded VF. I am guessing that that would be a Proof-50 today. Curiously, several 1841 $2-1/2's are known circulated, which might bolster the explanation that they were distributed to non-numismatic recipients. -

Actually, the unc set has 2 coins. And most people don't really care about the silver. So it's really 1 vs 2, not 1 or 2 vs 9. The silver has intrinsic value, and that accounts for part of the price differential. And, 9 is not 8 times 1. But, no, the "value in this set" is really not "the 8 silver coins." Most silver proof… -
