I had one just like it back in the 1970's. At the time it was modern made. Not sure if it's a reproduction of an antique or not.1 -

Is MS70 formulated to remove tarnish or was it made to remove dirt, grime, and other contamination? You might have better results using a coin dip such as e-Z-est.2 -

I see no evidence of this coin being cleaned unless you consider dipping to be cleaned in which case there are many cleaned coins in straight graded PCGS slabs.2 -

It looks dipped but I don't see any hairlines that would indicate a cleaning. Gold from the Dahlonega region had a higher silver content and tend to be lighter in color.2 -

I wonder if that 1876 double dime was in a "cleaned" details slab and the dealer cracked it out thinking he could get a better price for it raw. In any case, it's a neat and attractive…4
