    Thanks for weighing in. I want to clarify something important about this coin: the letters aren’t a reflection or an illusion. The “UST” is physically embedded within the lamination layer itself. You can see the shapes pressed into the raised flap, not just distorted underneath.

    That’s why I don’t think this is a simple retained lamination. It looks more like a compound error — lamination combined with a transfer of design elements. The upside-down lettering trapped in the lamination makes this piece stand out from typical lamination flaws.

    I’d be interested to hear if anyone has seen other examples where actual letters are embedded in the lamination rather than just distorted. To me, that makes this coin unique, even if the market value isn’t high.
