Need Input on Various Coin Magazines (differences? some better than others?)

Can anyone offer their input/feedback/perception on the various coin related magazines?

I am curious which one people think is best? I realize "best" is a loaded word here.

Are some slicker (nicer photos, glossy paper) and more interesting than others?

Are some more for the layman/amateur?

Which one has the widest circulation / subscribers?

I am not sure I captured all the candidates below.

I think only the 1st two would be newsstand available.
The others might be online only?
I think the last one in my list below has prices only and not articles.

Interested in any and all opinions and views ...

I prefer CoinWorld for their articles, but think Numismatic News is better for coin show advertising.
Fall National Battlefield Coin Show is September 11-12, 2025 at the Eisenhower Hotel Ballroom, Gettysburg, PA. WWW.AmericasCoinShows.com

Good feedback! It's interesting that I used to buy/read CoinAge as a kid back in the 1960's ... maybe that's more for the layperson.

I bought CoinAge as a kid also! Whenever I am waiting in the mall for my wife, I stop at the bookstore and read it and Coins. Rarely do I purchase either.

I like that! Reading Coinage as a 10 year old back in 1967 off those old Drugstore newsstands, is a fond memory of mine.

I also remember when many Drug Stores had a COIN SECTION where they sold Blue Whitman Folders, Redbooks, and Coin Tubes and 2x2 holders.

Boy those days are long gone.

I actually liked the look and feel of Coinage Magazine back then but of course that was from a kids perspective.

I dont think I have ever read or picked up a copy of CoinWorld, but I did read those ANA publications for a short while online.

For scholarly articles and research it is The Numismatist by a mile. For current news and information I am most familiar with Coin World but in any case I get this type of information from the internet, including this site.

Thanks for the great feedback and input. Very helpful!
  • The Numismatist and Coin World have both offered me great insight into some subjects I knew very little about!

I also used to subscribe to COINage regularly as a grade-schooler in the 1970s. My sense of these publications, having read them all, is that COINage and COINS are marketed more for young numismatists and beginning collectors, Numismatic News is a bit more adult/advanced collector-focused, Coin World is in the middle between those two, and The Numismatist is more advanced collector and scholarly. If you want interesting articles and collect Liberty Seated material, I'd also recommend The Gobrecht Journal, which is the thrice-yearly publication of The Liberty Seated Collectors Club.

I've subscribed to COINage since 1971. Usually has 1-2 good articles every month, still
have all of them plus some earlier issues. The Numismatic News and Coin World I've
subscribed since the late 70'S. They are always good reads. The Numismatist since
1981. Well researched articles. For the average collector C.W. or N.N are great.
