Re: Another large size NBN curiosity

I've always thought it was somewhat arrogant that the BEP added "Engraved and Printed by the Bureau of Engraving & Printing" on federal currency that, in fact, had been engraved by private bank note companies. In truth, the BEP did little more than alter the signatures on many notes after they called in all currency plates… -
Re: Guess The Grade: 1943-D Wheat Cent & Did PCGS Cause this? - REVEALED In Comments

I respectfully disagree. I assume you're splitting hairs by saying "high end" coins and "low end" coins because that generally refers to price points. I assume you're not distinguishing someone sending in a bunch of low-end MS66s which are by definition better than a high end MS65. In all practicality, I don't think coins… -
Another 1864 IHC Thread - minor clashing
After reading a few posts on 1864's lately, and remembering about the post Russ started last fall Russ's thread, I thought I would finally try shooting mine. It does not show anywhere near the clash details as any of the IHC's in that post, but it I still think it's cool. Question for you guys/gals before the pics, Is… -
Re: 8 Reales Pillars, post ‘em if you got ‘em

My favorite mint/run is Guatemala from 1768-1771. The die cutting was gloriously crude, replete with inverted letters, errors, and stopgap measures to compensate for the wear and tear on hand-me-down equipment from Mexico: Problems include: The S in HISPAN has a "stop" superimposed; also recognized as "S over Ƨ" suggesting… -
OT: Jadecoin responds to each of Doug's points
The thread that DMWJR started became cluttered, so to make this simple, here are our responses to DMWJR's points. These are unedited quotes, but I do note that DMWJR recently went back and edited some of his own posts. NOTE: It's a very long thread - sorry! ---------- (1) DMWJR SAID: I would have taken this issue into PM… -
Re: How to Make Money as a Professional Coin Dealer
<< <i>Fwiw it's usually the lowballers that get the best collections that fall out of the woodwork (estates, grandpa died, etc.). If you try to offer a fair price it seems the owners usually walk, thinking that if it's worth that much money to this dealer, it must be worth a whole lot more. >> So, the more you offer, the… -
Re: Is there any way to tell a circulated proof from a business strike?
If the coin is an AU or a choice EF, many of the Proof characteristics are still visible. Much of the luster and additional sharpness will still be evident. Once the grade falls to VF, the task gets harder. One might note a wider rim, and some Proof coins were made from dies that have markings that will show their original… -

Re: 2004-D High/Low Leaf Wisconsin Quarters
The production of each die falls onto a conveyor belt that takes it to be counted. By definition varieties are pairs of dies (die varieties) so this production ends up on the same or subsequent pallets which tend to go to the same federal reserve district and then to the same banks in this district. The WI quarters went to…
