New VAMs!
Well, I got my first box of 20 new VAM candidates back from Leroy Van Allen. Six made the cut as new designations, five R-5 and one R-4. A couple older descriptions were updated. One very exciting one is the new 1935-S VAM-6 - a third C reverse identified. For clashed die afficianados, there is the 1879-O VAM-27A and a… -
Re: 1921-P Morgan Infrequently Reeded - VAM 4 with Die Gouge - Need HELP
Thanks! That was fast. I'll definitely be keeping it. It's my only example of an IR Morgan. I guess the part that confuses me is.... I can't find any mention of this die gouge. The later die states of the VAM 4 (VAMs 27 and 27A) list smaller die markers, but still no reference to this long gouge in the left wing. Wasn't… -
Re: Postem if you gottem,Weekly Newps
These 2 arrived this week (sellers scans) Middlesex Political and Social Series D&H #211 honouring William Pitt, who at the age of 24 became Britains youngest Prime Minister in 1783. Minted in White Metal and listed as RR. Suffolk Bury D&H #27a - a common token with a rare edge legend, listed by D&H as RRR. The seller was… -
Re: Stamp grading
IMO, I don't think it hurts the value that much for a pen or pencil mark on the back. In the old days, it was quite normal for people to put identifying numbers on the back, mint and used. Even some "experts" put expertizing marks on the back such as a plate id or their own mark. I forget the expertizer, but the Greenland… -

Re: FOUR "TOP 100's"
Nice finds, with three examples of how things have changed in less than 10 years. 1886 VAM 1B is now VAM 21. The gouge in the M is really the bottom of an 8 from a misplaced date, and is the only Morgan dollar MPD not in the denticles. 1921 VAM 2A is now VAM 27A. VAM 2 and 2A don't exist. In addition to the gouges you… -
Re: Anyone win on Teletrade Tonight?--I picked up this
A bunch of silver dollars here. 1878-S NGC 63 (looked interesting) 1880-S PCGS 66 (possible VAM-10; got for grey sheet bid or thereabouts) 1881-O PCGS 62 (interesting features I want to check out up close; got cheap) 1921 PCGS 63 VAM-27A wide reeding (easy one to cherrypick but what the heck) 1921-D PCGS 63 (not a familiar…
