Born this day 63 B.C., Octavian

Octavian born on September 23, 63 B.C.

This bronze head of Octavian from the collection of the British Museum was taken as a trophy by the kingdom of Kush and was buried in front of a small temple in Meroe, the capital, where temple goers could tred over it.

This is my one piece of his, an As of the moneyed Otho, 7 B.C.

Please post a coin of Octavian or anything bronze of his era.

The facial expression on that bronze bust very much resembles mine when I realize one of the cats has yarked up a hairball on one of my coin books! image

Really like the portait and contrasting patina on your coin.

I too had an Augusts As with M. Salvius Otho as moneyer. (I'm assuming he was the grandfather of the later emperor of the same name?)

A modest-grade coin, but I always liked it:

(And for the record, I know that coin had no business in a slab. I just had it put in one because that's how I was doing my Twelve Caesars set at the time.)
