A mystery coin?

A dealer friend reached out to me curious as to what he has. He purchased this coin in the early 90s from an auction built by a prominent collector over several decades. He's held onto it mostly out of curiosity with no knowledge of what it is but we were talking about obscure ancients and it reminded him about it.

I don't have any leads as to what it would be, nor do I have weight/diameter, unfortunately. Any insight is much appreciated!

    OK, I'm stumped.

I'd guess a lead token of some kind... unless it's dark-toned silver.

There was an almost infinite array of these in England in the late medieval period up until the 17th century.

I'm sure the same was true on the Continent.
