The other day, I spotted the last date I needed for my Barber Dime Date Collection.

Although not as lofty in grade as some - its a sweet coin.

It seems that I completely forgot about the week day auctions at Heritage.
Another collector mentioned that he had picked up a great looking 1914
Quarter - in an NGC 58 holder. Well... I couldn't pass this one up tonight ...

    edit to add images:

This coin was crossed to PCGS - as an AU 55.

I spotted this Quarter as soon as Heritage posted it - and knew I had to own it.
Not that I'm doing - or even attempting of doing a Mint State Set of Quarters -

this was just too pretty to pass up. I put in a bid for a MS 64 - and did not hit my MAX bid [ FOR ONCE - LOL ]

I have a few new quarters in 53-58 coming - but will wait to post until I have them in hand.

Another collector has offered me this coin because he had bid on it
and preferred a different coin in a recent HA auction. I was more than
    happy to accommodate him.

It'll get cracked out before submission to our hosts.

Thanks, Gentlemen. I think I've been very fortunate to have picked up
the above newps. I should have four more Quarters to post by Turkey Day.

They are on their way down from North Carolina. Really looking forward
to getting them. I looked over BarberQuarters' set at great leisure and,
selected what I considered the finest looking of the collection that wasn't
already spoken for. My original list was just about ten coins, so, I am happy
to be able to get just these four.

In the meantime, a newbie and I have been involved in working on getting
one of his coins recognized as a newly discovered variety. I really can't say
too much more about it at the moment, but rest assured, there isn't one Barber
collector who won't be stunned by the outcome ( provided of course, the powers
that be agree with my findings. ) This coin has just been shipped to me and I am
more than anxious to get the coin in hand. As we all know, there is no substitute
to getting a coin in hand. Working off images just doesn't cut it. There will be a few
follow up posts on this subject. Stay tuned.

Well, today, 12/11/13, I went to NGC and met with one of their graders, John Schuch
and their researcher, David Lange. After discussing the coin and looking at detailed
images as well as a stereo microscope - what was a Ghost S on the reverse of a 1901
Quarter in an NGC 58 holder - was no more than a series of minuscule scratches.
The position of the MM was wrong, as it was a position only used in 1892 and never
since. Still... If wishes had wings...

Interesting weekend - still working on the new coin's details
and having it confirmed at the TPG's... More than likely it'll be
    NGC.

I also was able to pick up two new additions for the Quarter set:
1901-P in 62 as well as a nice 1902-O in 55 ( did not realize this
until I looked at the confirmation from eBay, but I bought it from
Scott M. of Boston ) Small world.

Looking forward to a few of TinCup's couple of coins...

and the 1905-O in PCGS AU 58 CAC . This coin is still registered in my All Time Finest Set [ #3 ] Basic Set .
It seems as though I bought this coin in June, 1998 out of a Teletrade Auction in an ANACS 58
holder. I sent it along with another 36 ANACS certified Quarters to PCGS - where this coin crossed
as an AU 58. In June, 2011, this coin was sent to CAC and was accepted by them. The coin sold
at Heritage's Summer ANA Auction in August, 2011 and was purchased by Vern Seeby [ who was
seated behind me during the auction ] ... he in turn sold it to Walt Kennedy. Walt just decided to
sell off his Barber Quarter collection to fund his latest passion, Seated Liberty Quarters.

Just crazy for that 1909-O Dime... pleased is putting it mildly.

I bought this Half in raw state at FUN last January - and I was
very leery it would holder, but its such a rare coin in this condition,
I had to try and see if it'd holder, or not.

    It did not !

    image
    image
    image

The coin looks mid grade AU to me - far away from XF as possible - unless the XF is their idea of Net Grading.
Not too sure about that. Regardless, finding a lightly used 1905-O Half is like finding the needle in the haystack !!

    Thanks for stopping by, Darrell.

I'll make it a point to stop at your table,
as FUN lost Glenn's application and check,
so, we're not setting up, per se.

Charmy and Todd have been nice enough
to loan an extra table badge for Glenn and
he can squeeze out a foot hold to conduct
    some business.

As in the past, the larger dealers scoot out
as early as Friday afternoon, so I'm hoping
we get an open table closer to the front.

    See you soon.

There is a 25 dealer waiting list for tables. There is no problem being in the
Budget section, we've been there before - as a matter of fact you were almost
    next to us, Darrell.

We do have a large inventory to stay within the Budget caps.
Coins over $1000 can be in separate trays for client viewing.

    Craig,

Really nice 14-S... However, it's not in my Registry Set,
it's in yours. I am thinking the large US Forum Barber Thread
    - Part Two is going to appreciate your images more than
    my Registry Forum little Thread.

More collectors frequent the Barber Mega Thread. I know you
have a bunch of newps you'll want to show off soon. Looking
forward to seeing them on the large thread !

Let me know the status at CAC. I would estimate you'll get 100%
    acceptance with your newps.
