Jefferson Nickel Variety Of The Week: 1939 DDO FS-101
Ok, I get to toot my own horn on this one! This 1939 is the Discovery Piece, DDO-007, 7-O-VI, Stage B, MDS that is pictured in the Cherry Pickers Guide. I picked it up many years ago and had it graded to place in my "All Variety" Registry Set. A discovery piece listed in CONECA is pretty cool, but I would have never imagined this would be a Cherry Picker Variety.
We will have to see what turns up now that it is listed. So far the Pops are 1 MS (this one) and 1 AU. To me this variety is pretty obvious. We all, even the non-Jefferson folks, look at 1939's looking for the DDRs. This is the only one I have ever seen in all my hunting. I got lucky and found this great MS example.
The Cherry Pickers crew picked several other what I call the "Wide Doubled Dies" in the last Volume. These include this 1939, the 1945-D and the 1946. Lots of new stuff to look for. Happy Hunting!

It's cool to have the "plate coin."
That's a great nickel, and looks much better than a 66 to me.
1939 is an interesting year for Jeffersons.
