.....well it IS "NT", providing you live somewhere its 1600 degrees in July! Haha seriously pcgs would AT code it in a Genuine slab then some Noob would buy it on eBay for $475 because pcgs said the colors were "Genuine". I don't play that game. When I spend it tomorrow at Wawa getting coffee ill let you know if the clerk says anything. "Duuuhhhh I can't take this its AT"
The first nickel posted at the beginning of this thread looks more like chemical toning than heat toining.
These are all from the same seller on Ebay. He calls them "heat toned". The Washington above is one of his that made it into a straight graded holder. He has a new "batch" on Ebay now.
I would call that heat tarnish.... having made a few of those in my experiments. I have done similar in a frying pan, heat box and although I tried a torch, it was not nearly as successful. None of those experiments ever left my house in the condition achieved. Chemical and heat combined is the fastest method.....the nickel in the OP could well be from that process. Cheers, RickO

Does this answer your question?
There are so many numerically graded AT coins in PCGS slabs, it's not even funny. At least on the modern side of things anyway. For supposedly being the best 3PG in the industry, they sure do let an insane number of these through.
I wonder if there is a technical reason that they can't disqualify coin from receiving a numerical grade, even though the toning process has clearly been accelerated?

Well, yeah, but meant more in a formal manner. Like a Q&A at one of the various shows.
