TIA

It's not with a serial number of #8894? If so it is a copy.

Someone I know, knows someone who found a 1840 $1000. Does he live in Maryland? I think $500-$600? I might be able to post a pic tomarrow.

I followed up on his request, according to the person in possession of the bill, it does match the serial #.

Updates to follow in the next day or two with pics ( I hope)

The person in question lives in West Virginia.

I have NO knowledge of currency. I am mostly into coins. I hope to post an update to this thread in a day or two.

Well the note my friends, friend has is fake. I just saw the serial 8894 on it. He told her it was in his grandfathers house and he was going to look for more. The guy I think is in his 60's. Oh well I guess I can give him 50 cents for it. I told her all along that I didn't think it was real. So what's a counterfiet worth?

So what's a counterfiet worth?

Actually, it's not a counterfeit - it's really a modern replica (meaning produced in the last 50 years or so) that was created as a novelty item for promotional purposes such as being placed in cereal boxes. These replicas really have no value.

A "true" counterfeit would have been produced at the time that actual note was in circulation for the obvious nefarious purpose of passing it as the real thing. Contemporary counterfeits do have some collector value depending upon supply and demand.

Thanks. I'll tell her to tell him the cereal is most likely worth more than the note.
