Mike Kelly Auction - Thanx EVERYONE - we hit 6K!! If you want a PSA Box from Mike - Please PM Mike

Hi everyone

From Dave:

if anyone knows an auto dealer in the Londonderry, NH - Boston, MA vicinity, the family needs to replace their current 2001 Toyota Highlander (260k+ miles) with something suitable so they can all fit comfortably in a single vehicle. They are probably looking for a 2013/2014 Toyota minivan with low wiles. If we have anyone who can connect them with someone who would be willing to get them set up with a vehicle at an attractive (maybe even wholesale???) price it would be great.

After you've paid, please PM me with the receipt - I'll mark you as paid and you can contact the person with your lot(s) and provide your address.

Here's a few notes on Mike and why we have a devotion to his legacy on our forum.

This is a time where Dave and I would like you to bid with your hearts to help his children in a time of need. You're part of and doing something special in the history of our forum.

1) This is a charity auction to support the children of Michelle and Mike Kelley, both of whom passed away in their 30s as a result of health problems. Mike was a valued member of the CU Forum community (forum name: miconelegacy). He was generous with his time, with his support of other members experiencing hardship and in giving to others. The SMR article about Mike and Michelle's fight with her illness can give you a better idea of how special Mike was.

More than anything else, Mike set the example of how we could enjoy collecting together and form string friendships through this CU Forum virtual community. It is a testament to his example that so many members here (and PSA itself) are so quick to contribute to this worthy endeavor.

If you are a newer member or someone who did not get to know Mike while he was with us, you are strongly encouraged to search for some of his old postings, group breaks that he ran, etc. and read the SMR article to get to know about a special man who we lost suddenly and tragically just 2 years ago.

2) Additional donation of lots will be appreciated. Any lots donated after the auction begins will be added on to the catalog at the end (SO CHECK BACK TO SEE IF ANYTHING NEW HAS COME IN). Last time to submit an additional lot is 11PM EDT Sunday August 28.

3) The auction ends at 11PM EDT on September 1 (next Thursday). Payments will be made to an online fundraising page. Once you make a payment, get your receipt and post it to the thread and the donator(s) of the lot(s) you won will get in touch to arrange shipment to you.

***Hang tight - there's more Lots to be added! image

Not sure what the bid increments are, but looks like Travis and I have the same shoe size. I'm going $125 on Lot #4. However, I still play b-ball, so they will be put to good use.

I'm still floored by the amount of generosity with this thread. Really incredible.
    Collecting PSA 9's from 1970-1977. Raw 9's from 72-77. Raw 10's from '78-'83.
Collecting Unopened from '72-'83; mostly BBCE certified boxes/cases/racks.

Thanx Keith - totally not surprised. On Pawn Stars - an episode involved a shoe museum and the guy wanted 1 million for the collection.

On your donation - I think the box is attractive and I would want to display it "with" the shoes.

If I woulda and shoulda.....I do recall conversations on the phone with people selling Jordans in the past. I attempted to research the market and discovered it to be quite like a bazaar. I know now there are rarer versions which command ridiculous prices. Those, of course, would accentuate the mood of a room, not my feet.

I kind of got the idea that these were "collectible" shoes to be displayed Jeff - no?

That's funny. I was bidding to wear them playing hoops. I had no idea they were collectables. I happen to be a Nike 13, so perfect size.

    Collecting PSA 9's from 1970-1977. Raw 9's from 72-77. Raw 10's from '78-'83.

    I'm with you!

I just thought that there were people out there who were collecting the shoes of great players like we collect cards?

    My source?

Chumlee from Pawn Stars - he's a big collector on the show. I know? Good source? image

Collecting shoes is a huge billion dollar + industry, and resale of Nike retro shoes like Jordan's are larger than the other major shoe companies sales of their new shoes! Typically any Jordan retro shoe sells for $225-300+.

100% correct. Before I got back into cards, I collected shoes. My collection includes Jordans, Kobes and Lebrons and was at 400 pair before I sold down to about 150 pair. It is a fascinating hobby because of the nuances and thoughts behind a shoe, and how they represent a player at a specific time in their lives.

The biggest lesson I've learned in this hobby, and in life, is that if you have a strong conviction, you owe it to yourself to see it through. Don't sell yourself, or your investments, short. Unless the facts change. Then sell it all.

I only have about 4-5 pair of retro Jordan's, and based on where I work I am not permitted to resell them; however, donating to a worthy cause like this auction is perfectly acceptable. I actually have a pair of ARod's shoes from the Mariners I thought about putting in this deal but did not know if there would be any interest.

Here are some new photos of the Arod shoes. These were game issued but not game used. For our promo athletes like Griffey, Arod, Trout... we would make their shoes with special markings personal to them with their name, nickname, player #... on the shoe. For Arod on the 40/40 model we put his number, name on the tongue and back heel, and blacked out the outsole. These are from 1999-2000 which is stated on the tag, and down below it shows them as promo shoes.
