1st HOMERUN PROJECT - 1,700+ Returns - Updated 12-31-2018 - HAPPY NEW YEAR

I thought the first day of 2012 would be a great day to show one of my 2011 collecting focus.

I first have to say that Mike (thenavarro), Shane (frankhardy), Mike (VitoCo1972), Doug (Dboneesq), Rube and dozens of fellow TTM collectors over on sportscollectors.net are to BLAME for passing along this TTM sickness to me.

I have tried different TTM themes and nothing really stuck ~ until this year

I wanted to try and get all the Mets pitchers that hit their first HR in a Mets uniform to sign my custom card. That moved on to all Mets players who hit their first homerun in a Mets uniform and then on to all players who hit their first HR.

Went after players who played in the 30's, 40's and 50's --- then I wanted to have each team represented and

I have tried to capture the logo of the teams during the timeframe these players played.

KA-BAMMM I was hooked --- it has been a thrill to send out these requests and it has been a blast to get a return almost everyday.

Over the last year I have received over 600 returns and have scanned over 400 so far --- over the next few weeks I hope to have them all posted.

Mike

    Was not sure on how to sort and post but I think the best way is to post in date of HR order -- this first rum of images will go from 1937 to 2011

    My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

    This is a great idea!

    Oddly enough, Frank Thomas hit his 1st career home run and 500th homer under the same roof, the HHH Metrodome. After the Dome collapsed last year, I was fortunate enough to find a contact in the front office who was willing to send me some scraps of the roof, free of charge. It then became my goal to get Frank to sign a piece of the roof, hopefully with an inscription.

    Being that Frank hasn't done a paid signing in a long while (and that promoters charge crazy for his signature), I didn't know when the opportunity would arise, until he started doing free signings in the Chi-Town area to promote his Big Hurt Beer. I was very fortunate that a fellow collector was willing to take a piece of the roof and attempt this autograph feet for me.

    Frank apparently had never seen a piece of the Dome and/or had never been asked to sign it because he wasn't sure what the tile was when handed to him. After my collecting buddy explained, and explained my inscription request, he said Frank seemed genuinely happy to do it and thought the piece was pretty cool.

    Here's the outcome:

    Does this mean your quest to get all the pitchers The Kid went deep on has stalled or ended?

    This is a neat idea too. Love how you use the period logos for each team.

    Nope -- still plodding along with this project --- have hit a bit of a wall since lot of guys I need to pay for and some dropped off the face of the TTM world

    ~~~ BUT ~~~
    Bright note: I have picked up 4 more Steve Carlton's in December and have some help with 2 Bob Knepper's and 1 Mike Scott later this month
    Out of 301 (23 are form deceased players) possible ~ to date I have 218
    I will re-scan them this year and re-launch the thread too.
    These are all the 30's, 40's and 50's that I have scanned so far
    Sad to say a couple of the players posted so far passed away (Ernie Johnson and Dave Cole)
    Cool to think this April will make the 75 anniversary of Bobby Doerr and Ace Parker hitting their 1st HRs
    Ace Parker will also turn 100 this May -- he only hit 2 HRs in his brief baseball career but made the Football Hall of Fame
    If you notice that the first Mets image is different -- this is because when I started this project I sent to only Mets and redesigned the cards when I started sending to all players
    This is the end of the first wave of 1960's returns
    The Seattle Pilots were only around for 1 year and there are 3 people who hit their first HR in 1969 Walton, who you see here, Dr. Mike Marshall -- I sent to him but got the instructions to contact
    Bill Corcoran for autographs and Steve Hovley -- I sent to him in May but nothing has come back. I am glad the Pilots are represented in this project.
    To add to the pitchers hitting HR theme --- Joe Blanton of the 2008 Phillies is the only pitcher to hit his first HR in a World Series Game (10/26/2008) got the win too.
    Sent a request to him via the phillies late in the year --- no response yet.
