Why I do this collect/deal

I want to share 3 stories of interactions with customers over the last year that to me are why I do this job. Feel free to add your stories as a collector or dealer.
1. Guy starts coming into the shop wearing a concert T-shirt and jeans and starts buying Jefferson Nickels $5-10 every other day. One day he comes in wearing a suit and in talking to him I find out he is unemployed (going to a job interview) and this is the little bit of joy he gets during his week. Weeks go on and he continues buying a few coins at a time. Eventually he comes in is like I just landed a job and want to buy a BU set of war nickels to finish his set. It was like $100 but the look in his face when he got them was priceless.
2. I am building a set of MS Lincoln's for a guy, mostly MS63-65 Red to RB. We have been working together for some time and he had been looking for a nice 31-D for quite some time. There was one in an auction that he wanted me to bid on but it got way out of hand. At the same show I found one and it was exactly what he wanted. It was actually better than the auction coin and a bit cheaper. When I called he was all down and was second guessing his decision not to bid higher. His reaction when I told him about the coin and again when he saw it in hand makes it all worth it.
3. A more affluent collector who we work with was having me bid on some 5 and 6 figure lots and we were going over them. The guy was excited but nothing special. What got him excited? When we started talking about the few hundred dollars he was spending on his nephew and how they sit and talk about coins and their history and why those cheaper coins are what were really important to him. It really got to me that while he spends big bucks on coins, it is still a means to an end and a hobby.

And this thread reminded me of why.
Feeling bad , I pulled a twenty out of my pocket, took his personal information and bought 2 dollars worth of junk, and thought after he left... 'What is wrong with me ? I just shorted myself $18 USD".
Later I got this call. I recognized the same voice of the man who was in an hour earlier. He simply said , "I was in earlier and I want to say thank you for restoring my faith in humanity. I never dreamt anyone could be so kind when I was so down and out".
I remember how many people helped me when I was down and out. Life is not easy for any of us. We all struggle at some juncture in our lives. If not, we just ain't human.
I'll probably edit this out because it seems self serviing, but it is not. I just thought some people should know what the STREET PEOPLE are going through.

Greeniejr cares? Please, have you read all his recent bashings? He does not like CAC. Probably sends coins out to fixed and or gets many back no graded or not stickered. Works with a guy who screwed his mentor. Attacks a leading dealer. Sure post some fluff here. Whats next, you rescue squirrels?
The only ones allowed to be fluffy are the CRO guys. Dave and John know their coins, have great relationships with collectors, and they give out cool hats too. They probably have the best stories.

edited to add some more stories...
Recently hired by one of our federal agencies to appraise a collection so a judge can complete sentencing on a case. One of the coins in the collection is a PCGS graded coin, and another is the famous 1913 Nickel
Guess the grade and value.

I remember working in a small coin shop while in college and the joy I had working with kids putting together sets. What was marvelous was the look on the parents' faces when somebody was treating their little tike like a human being and not relegating them to a junk bin as a nuisance.

Two days before the past Xmas I drove 100+ miles to pick up my wife's 80+ year old aunt to come to our home for the holiday. I stopped fro gas to fill up before I stopped by her home. As I was pulling out of the station I saw a young man and a young woman (both maybe 20 years old) standing at the corner looking very down and out. I stopped, rolled down my window and gave them some money. The look of surprise, relief and joy on their faces was great. Some cash to help them out and it gave me a boost also.

That was a very humane thing to do. Alot of us dont realize how good we have it and its nice to be able to help out others who really need help.
