My son Erik and I left early Wednesday morning and 7 hours later arrived at the convention center in Sacramento. The loading dock is quite small and not multi-vehicle friendly, but we all managed to unload for set up in good time.
After set up, the ANA had a wine tasting dinner at the Old Sugar Mill, so several of us boarded the buses for the short ride across town along side the beautiful Sacramento River to this ex-sugar mill/now tasty winery!
My "little boy" on the bus!
Everyone bellying up to the wine bar!
Here are photos of the wine tasting dinner including photos of several ANA folks.
Larry
David
Tiffany
And I just had to take this photo of Kay in her very soft fur jacket
Jeff and his wife dined with us at our table (Jeff is a member of the Sacramento Coin Club)
Andy (Mr. Eureka)
This was a tee-shirt they were selling at the winery (he he)
We took a brief tour of the sugar warehouse. They said the building was constructed in Utah in the early 1900's and then taken apart and moved to its current location in the 1930's.
And this is the extremely rare and very expensive 1804 $1 in a specially made museum holder that Larry was showing us at dinner!

Charmy, how come ya got Rick setting at a table by himself?
All the pics with the reports are just a huge bonus. Keep both of 'em coming.

I wanted to attend this show - would have been my first major one - but work is too demanding right now.
Your pictures suffice nicely.

I was hoping for an action shot of HRH bamming somebody!
Thanks for taking us along with you

I was wondering about that. Anyone know why it was done this way?

Charmy said it was a MUSEUM slab... coin on top and description on bottom. It emulates a museum display.
Gotta love em... Sits down for dinner and whips out a 1804 $1 for show-n-tell!

I saw that but I'm not sure having the label on top or bottom really makes a difference to someone viewing the coin. As always, great report from Charmy with great pics. Made me fell like I was there. Thanks, Charmy!!!

No, not hungover this morning, just very busy - but we certainly did party last night! We started with some of my own very yummy Sangiovese at the show, then went over to the Citizen Hotel for their free wine happy hour. We stopped by the park where they had live music and vendors but they wanted $25 per person just to get in so we went over to McCormick & Schmidts for some wonderful rib-eye where I also had my first Irish car bomb of the night! We then ended up at a really fun pub on J and 15th called The Torch. They had a live band that played a lot of jazz/rhythm & blues - not exactly Irish style music, but great just the same! We danced a lot, had some more Irish car bombs as well as several pints of Guinness. My son even asked me to dance, which was really special since he's moving to Italy next week and I am sad that I won't have him around for quite a while, not to mention his birthday is TODAY!
I have to say that I haven't been out dancing in quite a while, and this place was a ton of fun! We finally called it quits around 11:30, headed back to the hotel, crawled into bed, and quickly fell fast asleep! Here are several photos I took at the pub - enjoy!
And here's a view of downtown Sacramento from my hotel window - it's a very pretty city, especially at night!
Oh, and I did pick up quite a few more nice coins: some very pretty half cents, 1909-S Indian MS65 RB, a gorgeous MS64 1867 with a bold RPD "1" and a STUNING MS66 1860 Indian cent.

<< <i>...your pics always make me feel like I'm there having fun. >>
Exactly! There are a lot of Debbie Downers and Negative Nellies on these boards, but Charmy always helps to keep things fun and enjoyable, and is a great asset to the boards.
The first one is of the Brasher Doubloon which is on loan to the ANA from Steve Couroursi. Steve was walking by as I snapped the picture and he said "Nice coin" and smiled. I should have had him take the coin out of the revolving holder so i could get a better look at it. The lighting was directed from above and the holder was rotating, so, you couldn't see it very well.
The 100 oz nugget that sold at the show was still on display. I snapped a picture of Don kagin taking it out of the case to show a very excited young numismatist.
Larry Shepard brought the Beebe specimen of the class III 1804 dollar to the wine tasting event on Thursday. We were able to take it out of its case (still protected by a cointain-style capsule).
Last night many of us went to the Capitol Casino. I won the high hand of the night with a straight flush to the 8. I was against a AK flush, so it was a huge pot. I won $200 in their high hand promotion.
Friday night is our last night here in Sacramento, and it was also Erik's birthday! So we celebrated his birthday with several friends at a really super wonderful restaurant called Ella's.
We even ran into several other show people dining at the restaurant, including some familiar ANA folks!
Here's a pretty view of Sacramento from our room this morning.
After dinner, Erik went back to the room and watched a movie since it seems I have worn him out with all our late-night "sight seeing"! So several of us met at the Capitol Casino for some after-dinner poker. There were probably about 5-6 dealers who were there, I ended up at a table with a couple of them and quickly and accidentally beat them out of a big pot! Rick was there at another table and he had the high hand of the evening (straight flush) for a nice $200 bonus!
Now it's back to the show, looking forward to seeing more forum members and doing some nice Saturday collector business! Then we'll pack up and head back home - That long 7-hour drive will be a bear, but it will be good to see my hubby and sleep back in my own bed tonight!

Here are photos of the bourse floor, some of the exhibits, and one of the many dozens of kids that stopped by my table today....
This is the Dino-Lite booth right behind me - they are wonderful neighbors and have a great microscope camera!
We'll be packing up shortly and heading home, it's really been a great show and exceeded my expectations!

Looks like lots of fun was had at the ANA show. I went Thursday and Friday and had some fun too, saw lots of folks from the forums and saw tons of cool coins. The museum exhibits were really neat too. Tried to get a few pics with my camera phone which didn't turn out that great, but here they are anyways:
1804 Dollar:
1913 Nickel:
Brasher Doubloon:
Old CA National bank notes:
Autographs of every US president from Washington to Carter with coins from the dates of each President's birth, death and coins from the time of each administration, very cool:
There were also a bunch of cool collectors exhibits that I didn't get pics of, the lighting in that section wasn't that great anyways unfortunately. One had all of the different eagles used on the classic commemoratives that I really liked. Another exhibit was several cases and had all coins from all over the world with different types of cats on them. Something for everyone I guess!
Michael Kittle Rare Coins --- 1908-S Indian Head Cent Grading Set --- No. 1 1909 Mint Set --- Kittlecoins on Facebook --- Long Beach Table 448
Thanks Charmy!
Sacramento is a neat city, full of history and some great architecture, as well as a lot of wonderful people. I met some new forum members, visited with some regular forum members as well as lots of old friends. I think overall the show was much busier and better attended than anticipated. From the dealers I spoke to, they had a better show than they had expected, though admittedly some had low expectations. Being part of the kids' treasure trivia, I saw more kids at this show than I usually doe at other ANA's, so the ANA is doing a great job getting more and more kids in the door, which is indeed a good sign for the future of coin collecting!
Now I'll take a few days to regroup, then it'll soon be time to get ready for BALTIMORE!!!

<< <i>Unfortunately the second batch of pics aren't coming up for me. Is there a way to make them show up when this thread is viewed from an iPad? >>
Wei, I'm not sure which batch of photos you mean, and I'm not very savvy when it comes to these types of things, but I reset my camera phone to a smaller photo size when I took the last group of photos and was hoping that would make loading them faster. Also, Rick and Mike posted some of their own photos which may be larger sized and more difficult to load. But I really don't know much else I can do to make photos load on an iPad.

hmm, that's the batch that I took with the smaller photo setting. Since you had previously mentioned it being a problem to load my photos, I tried to lower the setting to help, but looks like that didn't work - guess I'll have to go back to the original setting.
