The collar die and face dies are not connected. The rim is created by a face die, as is the rim cud illustrated, where a short piece broke out of the obverse die. A broken collar die would leave a plain area on the edge and possibly a vertical fin extending above the rim at that point. (Collar dies were more massive than face dies and subject to less stress, so coins with collar breaks are very scarce.) A collar break would not migrate to a face die unless additional damage occurred.
