Why don't the TPG's just market grade those coins up one?

    Yep.
Grading is becoming more and more refined. There are gaps inbetween the grades that need to be filled. The PCGS has the power and capabilty to make this happen.

How would all this affect the price guides?

I don't think that the price guides should be changed to reflect the bean.

    -----EXAMPLE

    MS63 value = 400
    MS63 w/ green bean value ~ 500
    MS63 w/ gold bean value ~ 650
    MS64 value = 800

    -----EXAMPLE

You know the value will be between 400 and 800. Judge the coin based on eye appeal and how nice you feel the coin is. View several examples in the next higher grade up and compare the two. Use this information to determine what the coin w/ or w/o bean is worth to you.

An eye appealing coin that is wonderful for its grade does not automatically become the next grade. It is simply a better example than most for the grade it deserves.

Thank you for the trip down memory lane! Not many people will remember the "brass ring".
