Just graded at fr02. I guess it qualifies as dirty gold.

I realize this is not a coin you would likely buy for your own collection since it is far too common a date and too low a grade for a common coin, but it is a nice, original piece-

Gold bully, that is a very nice coin but does not qualify for "dirty"?

Claychaser, it looks like a nice, original uncirculated coin, but it spent no time in the dirt. In fact, 20th century dirty gold is very unusual.

In fact, 20th century dirty gold is very unusual.

    Why is that, RYK?

What factors were involved in making the 19th century gold, dirty?

    Thank you.

ps. Did Todd image most of your box of 20???
I'm looking forward to those images.

I don't think the words dirty & gold go together very well...
The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

Todd imaged 14 coins for me. About half of the box already had images.

20th century gold really did not circulate. The No Motto and early With Motto gold, as well as a lot of the SF and CC gold, actually did circulate, allowing it the opportunity to get dirty.

Kaz, that's a dirty one. image

Did 20th century gold get to circulate long before the gov't said give it to me? I think that is part of the reason.

I laughed in Baltimore when a dealer asked RYK, "watcha lookin' for?", and RYK replied, "I'm looking for something dirty."
